Plastic surgery tips from Dr. Bienstock, plastic surgeon to the stars
Filed under: News

We recently had a chance to talk plastic surgery with Dr. Alan Bienstock. He's treated celebrities (though he's hard pressed to talk about it) during his first 4 years of practice and spills to exclusively to Stylelist what the hottest procedures in plastic surgery are, what they cost, and the benefits of getting them done.
What is the most common procedure woman get done? How about men?
When it comes to procedures, men and women most commonly have Botox or fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane. In terms of invasive procedures, women are having breast augmentation most commonly while men appear to be having liposuction.
Why do you think people get plastic surgery in the first place?
An individual is interested in obtaining plastic surgery and enhancement to feel better about oneself. Patients feel that a cosmetic improvement will enhance their inner and outer self, making them more confident and secure.
Is it easy to get sucked into a lifetime of surgery to retain youth? Is this damaging?
Many people will be drawn to years of plastic surgery procedures and touch ups in order to maintain youth and vibrancy. The effects and results of plastic surgery rejuvenation can be addictive. An obsession with plastic surgery vis a vis one's own beauty and body can be unhealthy and damaging if it is taken to an extreme. There is a psychiatric illness known as Body dysmorphic disorder where the affected person is excessively concerned about and preoccupied by an imagined or minor defect.
Many celebrities try to hide tweaks they get over the years even if it drastically changes their appearance. Have you treated any? And if so, are you able to spill whom?
Unfortunately I cannot reveal what celebrities I have treated. Sorry! I have to maintain patient privacy.
About how much on average would a minor surgery like a nose job or lip enhancement cost?
I don't think ANY surgery should be considered minor!! But, Rhinoplasty can run anywhere from $7000 – 10,000. Breast augmentation can cost $6000 -10,000. These are approximate costs for surgeons' fees, OR fees and anesthesia fees but each facility and surgeon has their own rates.
Are there any over the counter products or makeup tricks you suggest that people on a budget can use that give a similar affect to plastic surgery? Ie: Fuller lips, face lift, etc.
Although there are great skin care products to maintain healthy fresh skin, no products can embrace and achieve the long lasting results of a surgical procedure. Billboards, magazines, and advertisements of products that claim they can obtain the same results of a cosmetic procedure are merely a marketing ploy.
There are two new procedures, Fat Grafting & Lip Suspention/Augmentation, that are not over the counter but could be a great alternatives to the creams and potions that are being sold over the counter.
Anything else you would like to add or would want our readers to know about plastic surgery?
Patients and individuals should really do their homework and research when choosing to have plastic surgery. Individuals should look up the credentials of the physician and should real take time before proceeding forward. There is nothing wrong with seeking multiple doctors' opinion and consultations. Patients should also not be overly impressed with a glitzy, slick office when selecting a surgeon.
Thank you Dr. Bienstock!
