Michelle Obama reminds Phillip Bloch of another First Lady
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Fashion, Celebrity, News, Best of the Season

Like so many others, we've been impressed by Michelle Obama's polished, classic and accessible fashion style. Phillip Bloch is also a huge fan, so much so that he and Forest Whitaker's wife devised a special nickname for her: "Blackie O."
Chatting with New York Magazine, the celebrity stylist shared that tidbit, and suggested that, in the event of an Democrat win, this new Mrs. O should consider wearing a gown by Carolina Herrera or Oscar de la Renta to the inauguration. He even offered to work with her free of charge, to which we say, "Go for it, Michelle!"
Bloch also touched on the furor over Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's $150k wardrobe, defending the candidate by pointing out that she didn't make up the prices or hire a stylist and demand the most expensive items. Of course, as he also points out, if she had hired a stylist, she probably could have gotten a discount on all those suits!

"Michelle O" would have been better than "Blackie O"

Thank you! Obviously, the matter of race is still a huge issue in our "land of the free!" How absolutely uncouth and classless to refer to Michelle Obama, or any other person of color as "Blackie." As a Caucasian woman in the United States of America, I'm here to say racism will never go away until we STOP referencing color period! Human beings are human beings, black, white, red or yellow. We all bleed red.

Michelle has one big butt. No hiding that.

I think that's hilarious.

I am extremely offended by the use of the term "Blackie O" - If his intention is to honor Michelle Obama's style, then Bloch needs to think of a more tasteful name.
"Blackie O" is repulsive and unacceptable!

You might not feel so terrible about the name blackie-o if you had seen the video where Michelle O refers to white people as Whiteys. Not the kind of language I would like to hear from the future first lady of the United States. Sorry

You know what ... i agree. I voted for and campaigned heavily for McCain but right is right and wrong is wrong. When I read the title of the article, I immediately assumed it would be a negative read. I don't like blackie-o. I may not support her husbands policies or liberal ideologies but I do put things in proper context and this election was not race oriented for me. Lose the Blackie-O title and fast.

I don't approve of the "whitey" comment either. I also do not think much of Michele Obama as first-lady for more reasons than that, however stooping to her level takes the focus off of her, and refocuses the attention back to the shallow writer. There are plenty of valid negative things to reference about Michelle Obama. Blackie-O only turns the tide.

I am white and I am offended by that!

I'm amazed by the incredible amount of public interest in Sarah Palin. Good or bad, she's become somewhat of a pop icon. People are dressing like her to be and/or mock her all at the same time.
For instance, I found this video on dressing like Palin:

Don't be amazed at the Palin attention. She's a threat to the Democrats, hence the reason for so much attention. If she weren't a threat, the left-wing media wouldn't be trying to degrade her every move. Ironic how so many are threatened by an intelligent female making her way in a man's world. tsk, tsk ... speaks volumes for men and the left.

Blackie 0 is more then she deserves. Video of her at the polls this morning show her looking very sloppy. Nasty uncombed hair, and the children looked as if they just tumbled out of bed. No class ( or should I say , no class)

I can't believe anybody thought she had any class about her before last night anyway. The woman does NOT know how to dress and she's way too arrogant to have any class about anything. If she'd get that chip off her shoulder she'd be better off. It doesnt go well with anything she wears. If you want a classy lady then look no further than Laura Bush or Cindy McCain.

I could not believe it when I saw her at the polls yesterday. SHE WAS A MESS!!! It was as if she was saying " what you see is what you get" She does not have to act anymore!! That is the way she is... To me it was a very special day! and she tried to look her worst ! I could not believe it..... she knew the cameras were going to be there!! Jackie O, OH NO!!!!!
chickgold 11-05-2008 @ 7:18PM
Michelle isn't even close to Jackie O. Michelle needs to hide figure flaws big gut, big butt, which Jackie didn't. Maybe she could try understated elegance something she hasn't figured out. The black and red thing she wore for the O's acceptance speech was horrible and very unflattering.

It's terribly wrong to ever compare Jackie O. with Michelle.
Michelle Obama
went on tv to boogydown with a lesbian (Ellen)!. . Can you in your wildest imagination picture Jackie O doing such an atrocious thing?????? . Michelle has NO Class. No one should mention these two in the same sentence. Jackie O, Laura Bush, and other first ladiies were very elegant ladies. . . Give up,Michelle, no one will ever think of you as a lady,. ,.....

Blackie O is just wrong, so not cool.
Far from not having any, I think MO is the epitome of class. She is an articulate, intelligent, attractive woman with her own opinions, not Stepford-like arm candy with overly bright make-up or a reticent, mumsy caricature of a wife. I think that she dealt with supporting her husband, caring for her kids during this period, a death in the family and going through a trying election fantastically well, and in my opinion, that is class. Her hair was combed, just back in one as most of us keep it when we have more important things to think about than vanity.
As to MO having a big gut and butt, do you live in the US? I think she's the sexiest first lady since Jackie O. You probably wish you had her fitness and figure.
As for her being arrogant, that's what someone who writes the sort of stuff you do would think when a woman says anything but 'yes honey' or 'yes boss'.
Glad that there'll soon be a woman who most women can identify with in the WH. I was having nightmares about moose-hunt parties replacing garden parties.

Gee, I thought my TV had some kind of problem. That red detracted from her usual good taste in the clothes that she usually wore.

I too am white and horribly offended by "Blackie O". We have just had a major shift in our country. One that actually stands by what we preach and you are going to be so crude as to give her a racist nickname!!! Michelle Obama has more class than you do in your pinkie!
