We caught up with Tim Gunn last night at Fashion Forward, a fabulous fashion show featuring Betsey Johnson, Michael Bastian, Tim Hamilton, Charles Nolan, Ports 1961 by Tia Cibani, and John Varvatos, all to benefit Gay Men's Health Crisis. Tim was very busy hosting, but he made time to talk to us. Could we love him any more?
Of course everyone loves Tim Gunn. When we told a friend we were interviewing the famous fashion icon, she said "Ooooh! Please tell him I want him to be my dad!" (Sorry Jenn, unfortunately there wasn't time.)
We stepped backstage into the sea of models being shoehorned into all manner of contraptions, feeling very Ugly Betty in our 5'7"ness and blazer, and were introduced to Tim Gunn for a few quick questions before he went onstage to host Fashion Forward. Click through the gallery and read the interview!
We also, of course, let Tim know that we recently did a giveaway of his talking bobblehead doll -- to which he simply laughed. And then Mr. Gunn was whisked from our conversation and onto the stage -- but not without calling out a "thank you." Within moments, he had the audience in the palm of his hand, talking about the effects HIV had on the fashion industry in the 80s, cheering on Barack Obama, calling California's Proposition 8 "mind boggling," and so on. He introduced Jack Mackenroth and his Living Positive By Design campaign, as well as a few other speakers, then closed with "I trust that the models will make it work and carry on!"
Tim Gunn was charming, delightful, and totally pulled out "semiotic" in a sentence during an interview. A true class act.
Keep your eyes peeled for more coverage of the terrific Fashion Forward show, including Betsey Johnson's totally awesome and unwearable short yellow unitard with a giant red lobster on the front and more men in shorts!
