German designs trend toward the über masculine - Big balls on the runway

Filed under: Fashion, Celebrity, Designers & Brands, Red Carpet

When it comes to fashion design, it seems pretty fair to say that feminine themes seem to dominate -- and for the most part, we're glad that they do -- but there are a few notable exceptions. For example, a German designer in the north eastern town of Heringsdorf unveiled these awesome scrotum-tastic designs back in October. We tried like heck, but no one on the interweb seems to know this ballsy designer's name. Too bad.

Usually, we go out of our way to make fun of ridiculous designs that are produced only to attract media attention (which they obviously do), but for whatever reason, we love the testicular motif. It could just be our 9th grade sense of humor kicking in, but we really think there's something more absurd and whimsical going on with these balls-out designs.

It's certainly like nothing else we've seen. Some shock-value designs are just totally shallow and lame -- like making heels out of a doorstop -- but these balls(giant ovaries?) are hilarious and kind of confounding. What does it all mean?

You have to admit, there's a philosophical subtext here, but what is it? Female empowerment? Reproductive rights? Big balls are awesome?
