Rising, recycling star Cecilia Sorensen

Filed under: Fashion, News, Best of the Season

Cecilia SorensenAn international spotlight is shining on Barcelona based designer Cecilia Sorensen. Her "feminine, clean, and wearable," collections are, get this, recycled from men's shirts, blazers, waist coats, and antique sheets. Have you heard of anything cooler, ever? We didn't think so!

Originally from Helsinki, Cecilia studied fashion first in her homeland, then in England, before she landed her current gig (a design company) in Barcelona. After working in fashion for a few years, Cecilia became very aware of the fake, unethical aspects of fashion including all of the wasted materials. So she took, "a step away from fashion, or the 'use & throw away' culture," and began working recycled materials into her collection "without producing tons of new materials each season."

Her green approach to fashion started small... at first. "In the beginning it was mostly the Scandinavian customers and shops who were interested in it, but now it's getting bigger elsewhere." Elsewhere as in Legacy, Plum and Betsey Prince in NYC, Rendez-Vouz in Paris, and her soon to be online boutique that will allow all of us access to Cecilia any place, any time.
