Alright so we've all heard that starlets like Nicole Richie have shed some major poundage by counting carbs.

While this is true, the side effects are really not worth the skeletal frame. Here are a few reasons why you shouldn't take this risky short cut long term.

• Short term risks are extreme fatigue, constipation, and irritability

• Long term risks are colon cancer and heart disease

• Docs say a minimum of 130 grams of carbs a day are needed for a healthy diet

• The loss isn't permanent. When you eat carbs again you will gain it all back, if not more.

Instead of cutting carbs, cut out unhealthy refined carbs like soda and foods made of white flour. Trade these items for more fruits, veggies, and whole grains. With the amount of great whole grain foods out there – pasta, cereal, breads – the switch should be easy and you'll still lose those unwanted pounds in no time.
