W-41 Unveils Semi-Creepy Barcode Tees - Orwellian Fashions

W-41 t-shirts featuring ShotCode technologyThere's something unbecoming about wearing a shirt with your Myspace url plastered across it out on the town. But for those of us who are too shy to strike up a meandering barroom conversation the old fashion way, now there's a way to get virtually acquainted with that intriguing stranger. A Dutch apparel company called W-41 has come up with a new form of high tech t-shirt that -- when decoded by the right camera phone app -- can send people you right to your LinkedIn profile. Weird.

It works like this: once you've downloaded the right phone app, you simply snap a photo of one of these ShotCodes in a crowded bar or dreary quiet coffee shop. Your phone then reads the "barcode" and takes you to whatever websites they've attached to their ShotCode. Watch their little demo here.

Apparently, you can link your ShotCode badge to any url you like. Of course, the assumption is that most people will link to their networking site -- if the trend catches on. That way, a curious camera person can check out your profile while you just sit and chill, pretending not to notice that a strange person is taking pictures of you with their phone.

Hmm, would you wear a barcode by choice? We're not sure that the black and white, circular badge will go with any of our "going out" clothes. Is W-41 taking this whole voyeurism social-networking thing a little too far? We'll see.
