For decades us ladies have been taught to first line our lips and then carefully apply our lipstick, topping it all off with a gloss. Well, we are about to turn that notion on its head.

Lining lips first can really give you a Pamela Anderson effect, if you get our drift. For a more natural look, our favorite makeup artist at Nordstrom, Lisa, told us to apply and blot lipstick several times and line afterward. She also noted not to outline outside of the natural lip line because it nearly always looks unnatural no matter how hard you try (again - Pam Anderson effect).

But as always, the exception to the rule is a bold color like fuchsia or fire engine red. In these scenarios, fill in the entire lip first with pencil and then layer lipstick over with a lip brush for precision.
