Prada Releases a Bluetooth Watch - Awesome Stuff We Don't Need
Filed under: Accessories, Gift Guides, Fashion, Designers & Brands
When it comes to mixing fashion and technology, it appears that designers on both fronts are rushing to team up and blur the lines -- that way they can charge $817 for a device that's probably technologically inferior to the $200 iPhone. One of the products stemming from one of these partnerships is a curious little LG Prada Link wristwatch that communicates via Bluetooth to the new Prada II phone. How cool, sort of.Of all the awesome Dick Tracy-like potential functions that a Bluetooth watch could have, the Prada Link doesn't support voice communications, or show you live footage of the person you're talking to. Instead, the watch pulls your text messages and call info from your Prada II phone, and that's about it. It probably keeps time also.
We actually like the design of the watch. It strikes a nice balance between elegance and geekiness, sure. We're still a little underwhelmed by the features. If somebody calls, you can see who it is without having to take the phone out of your pocket. Big freakin deal. You still have to rummage around for the phone if its someone you need to talk to.
Guess that's not really the point when it comes to the Prada Link. It doesn't matter that it serves almost no purpose -- and that it has to be charged every 48 hrs. It's about wearing a hot new watch that says Prada real big on it. And having an add-on accessory for people to buy when they get their spouse the Prada II for Christmas.
