Te Cesan Shuts Its Doors - Natalie Portman Distraught

The Demise of Te Cesan
Natalie Portman: "Wow, I'm like, sad."
Natalie Portman expressed sadness that Te Casan, home of her vegan shoe line, has shuttered their shop. It's another sign of the tough times that so many retailers, and designers, are facing in the constricting economic climate.
She's not the only celebrity designer who might have to set up a table at the local farmer's market. Victoria Beckham's line has seen many troubled days, and Heidi Montag, that useless reality show blond (no, not Lauren Conrad, the other one who's still a woof-woof even after her well-documented plastic surgeries) had her line Heidiwood, discontinued. Even celebrity designer royalty like Sarah Jessica Parker is feeling the "bite" with her line, Bitten, looking for a new home now that Steve & Barry's has filed for bankruptcy.
What do other celebrities think when their fellow designers run into money trouble? In the gallery, some celebrity designer reactions to Te Casan's demise.

Sarah Jessica Parker: "Join the club!"
Bitten, SJP's affordable styles were distributed exclusively through Steve & Barry's, who recently announced they were closing their stores. Parker vowed to find a new home for the line.

Jennifer Lopez: "Ha! I told you to use fur."
Lopez has come under fire (from those nutty PETA folk) for her use of fur and leather. But the Sweetface line continues to thrive, and no sign of her empire slowing down.

Lindsay Lohan: "Why are you talking to me? Leggings are totally different!"
Despite predictions that her over the top leggings built in knee pads anyone? -- Lindsay's 6126 line, inspired by Marilyn Monroe who never wore leggings, (Lindsay: We don't know that!) has been a raging success.

Chloe Sevigny: "Bwhahahahahahahaha!"
Quirky and eccentric are probably the two words most used to describe the daring Chloe Sevigny. Whether it's "simulating" oral sex on screen, or wearing more than one strong plaid at a time, Chloe is anything but shy.

Victoria Beckham: "It's just her, right? No one else? Not yet, anyway?"
Victoria's live DvB has seen it's share of ups and downs. Amid rumors of deep discounts and discontinuations, Mrs. Beckham keeps muddling through. Cripes, it's not like she needs the money.

Lauren Conrad: "I wish you would stop calling me Heidi."
Conrad's line of blah dresses at ridiculous prices somehow continues to survive. But we suspect that the onslaught of copies by Forever 21 and H&M will eventually erode away what little profit the Lauren Conrad Collection ever made.

Sienna Miller: "What does vegan mean? Is that like lesbian?"
Twenty8twelve, the line by Sienna and her sister, continues to be available, but the buzz has died down considerably in the past few months perhaps because of Sienna's constant "Homewrecker" headlines. Or maybe because skulls are so, like, five years ago.

Kimora Lee Simmons: "GIRL! GET OVER HERE! I'LL HELP YOU!"
The Baby Phat designer has more than proven she knows what her audience wants, and she knows how to give it to them. Smart partnerships, like with Hello Kitty, should further secure the future of her company. As long as she doesn't go spending it all on hair product and belts.
Getty Images
Heidi Montag: "Do I look pretty from this angle? Well how about this one? Wait, maybe this one!"
For some inexplicable reason, this creature will not go away. Her fashion line, Heidiwood, (eyeroll) was discontinued because the parent company was going in a "different direction." Presumably that direction was somewhere like, east tasteful, west wearable or north not-so-slutty. Can someone tell her to go home now?

Vegan shoes (read plastic and rubber) at an overinflated price!

When did it become acceptable to pay the price for shoes and handbags that is equivalent to the price of a used vehicle? No wonder the economy is folding!! Oprah sits on her show and pushes handbags that cost $7500 and upwards. Shoes are glamorized that cost more than $1000 pair. It's a crazy world out there people.

Vegan shoes are shoes that arent made from animals, or have animal byproducts. All my shoes are vegan shoes, eventhough theyre a bit more expensive. Of course I only own two pairs of shoes. And who cares what rich people spend their money on. If you dont like what Oprah does, then dont watch her. The economy would actually do better if people would spend more money.

I'll continue to buy leather shoes. Plastic and rubber shoes make one's feet hot, sweaty and sticky. Leather "breathes" much better!

Is it just me, or is it because the older I get the more people become really stupid and open their mouth to simply insert the foot?

Do you think cows give a crap?

Leather is pretty humane, actually. Think how much longer your leather shoes last than the last cheeseburger you ate.
Lucky for us meat eaters, cows are depressed and want to be killed. The Vegan lifestyle is very healthy, the way Vegans get yellow teeth and lanugo and brain shrinkage. And of course, there's the danger of tripping on your sandal strap and hitting your head on a windchime.
Ms. Portman is nice to look at, but not much of an actress, as well as an indictment on the sad state of the Ivy League.

If anyone is actually interested in why people choose to not buy leather and support that industry, I encourage you to check out some of the information that's out there - http://www.idausa.org/facts/leatherfacts.html
It is, in fact, a cruel industry and, by buying leather, we are all supporting an incredibly un-sustainable and cruel way of life.
