The Grateful Dead Team Up with Converse - The Grateful Chuck

Grateful Dead edition Converse sneakersYou can say a lot of things about followers of the Grateful Dead: they were dedicated, enthusiastic about tie-dye, usually odoriferous, and they had a style all their own. Very seldom would you be tempted to call them fashionable. Yet this might be one of those rare occasions. Because baby boomers still pining after those psychedelic hippies days might be trading in their hemp sandals for a pair of Chuck Taylors complete with Grateful Dead artwork.

That's right Deadheads, Grateful Dead Inc. has teamed up with our very favorite American sneaker brand to put out some psychedelic footwear. These nostalgic shoes are part of Converse's music collection, and feature themes including the infamous dancing bears, skull and roses, and Europe '72 artwork.

Other fashion accessories marketed directly at deadheads have been met with considerable success. For example, the horrendously gaudy Jerry Garcia tie collection. We're pretty sure we've seen pictures of Jerry Garcia rocking a pair of Chucks. So maybe that helped inspire the creative process with these babies.

Is Team Dead starting to think about brand longevity and retirement? Since their 401Ks are all in the crapper, maybe they've decided that they need to go commercial. They certainly seem much more genuine than those $440 velvet peace slippers from Barneys.
