Phone Book Dress Has Our Number
Filed under: Fashion, Best of the Season

Growing up, we were always sort of horrified by the annual contest Duct Tape sponsored, asking high school kids to make prom outfits completely out of their product. (Uh, no thanks.) But this dress -- made out of another household item -- is something we'd happily wear.
Created by design student Jolis Paons, the piece is made entirely from the folded and pleated pages of a discarded phone book. Paons created it for a class at Indiana's Herron School of Art & Design, gluing, folding and sewing it all herself. The attention to detail and the way she used the paper to mimic the behavior of fabric is truly stunning.
Even though this dress would be an amazing couture design all on its own, the fact that it's made out of, well, trash propels it to an entirely new level. It also makes it unlikely that it could ever really be worn (hello, rainstorms.) But we applaud Paons nonetheless for adding new glamour to the phrase "reduce, reuse, recycle."
