Alice Cooper, Rock God and Failed Celebrity Designer - Flashbacks

Alice Cooper at a concert in his characteristic face paintFind it hard to believe that a rock star with legions of adoring fans couldn't find someone to help him launch a celebrity line? Back in 1971, designers weren't open to letting just any old celebrity create a guest collection like they do today. According to WWD, Alice Cooper was an aspiring fashion designer at the start of his career, churning out all sorts of unique designs and hoping that someone would pick them up. But nobody ever did.

Alice's fashion theology at the time was actually pretty visionary and ahead of its time. Unfortunately, it's probably still ahead of its time. From his interview: "The 15-year-old kids who come to our concerts don't identify with Thirties movie star drag queen dressing. They prefer our Space Age bisexual clothes." It must be tough for that guy to know that he missed his big chance.

Among his most promising designs were, in no particular order: Alice Cooper Boots, which would feature plastic heels and a toe that would "light up in the neon color of your choice." For sportswear, Alice fancied a unisex jumpsuit made from the material used in NASA space suits. He also envisioned a necklace made out of human hair, complete with flashing lights. Brilliant stuff.

How could the fashion gurus have overlooked all that raw potential?
