Betsey Johnson Cancels Bryant Park Show
While no comment has been given by the Jonhson team on why there won't be a major runway show, we're sure it probably has to do with our troubling economy and the fact that it costs at least $10,000 to stage a proper production for 1,000 retail buyers, media and celebrities at fashion week.
Not all is loss for those who adore Betsey, though. The designer reportedly will still put on a fashion show or presentation. Although, it has yet to be confirmed where a show may possibly take place.

If she's following the trend that I've seen here in the New Zealand fashion industry, she'll probably put on a show off-site at the same time as NY Fashion Week and inform interested parties as to it's location.
With ever soaring production costs to present at a "branded" event, a lot of designers are really starting to question the overall value of such a large expenditure; particularly in this Information Age when they can reach a much larger audience, at a much lower cost, via web-casting or some other similiar technology.
While big fashion shows can indeed be quite fun, one needs to remember that it's just business for those in the industry. Industry people don't really care about the celebs that attend - unless they're big spending customers or have promotional deals with the brand - nor the media limelight unless it's going to generate profits for them.

Just another point I wanted to make: $10K would actually be extremely cheap for NY Fashion Week. Our main tents here in NZ usually go for ~$20K. And, that doesn't even include the cost of the models, stylists, goodie bags and after-party.
As a matter of fact, I'd bet that one couldn't even book a main tent at Bryant Park for $10K; It probably more like $50K and I wouldn't be surprised, at all, if it was nearer to $100K.
