Why Aren't You Throwing This? The Bush Shoe

Filed under: Accessories, Fashion, News, Stylish Living

Ramazan Baydan holds the Bush ShoeNever in human history has men's footwear been revolutionized by a single act that lasted only about 4 seconds. But ever since that Iraqi reporter chunked a shoe at the President, "The Bush Shoe" -- formerly known as the Ducati Model 271 -- has become one of hottest pair of kicks on the planet. Seemingly overnight, the Istanbul-based Baydan Group has received orders for over 370,000 pairs of the infamous black shoes from all over the globe.

With all of the talk about global recession and job cuts, it's ironic to think that what reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi meant as an insult has resulted in the creation of 100 new jobs at the Baydan shoe factory. According to Baydan reps, orders flooded in immediately from Iraq, then the rest of the Arab world, and now even from the United States -- with one US firm ordering 18,000 pairs all by itself.

Founder Ramazan Baydan was shocked at the overnight success, and almost as excited at the fact that his shoes were so aerodynamic. Apparently, he never realized what a great projectile his shoes could be.

At 11oz., Zaidi wasn't exactly threatening the President's life with the attack. Still, if it weren't for Bush's surprisingly cat-like reflexes, it could have been worse. You could tell W. has had a lot of experience dodging things.
