This year will be the year that we truly build a smart wardrobe. No longer will we be tempted by Forever 21's siren song of cheap, trendy tops we'll only wear once -- we will build a wardrobe filled with classic, high quality pieces. It will be the envy of all of our friends.

In order to do this, however, we a list. And, we're starting out with the five basic items we believe every woman absolutely must have in her closet. Of course, we all need considerably more than five items -- we are aware of this -- but most of us can't afford to buy much more than five quality pieces at a time, right?
