Cartoon Barack Obama Riding a UnicornIf there's a type of political campaign-wear that we can endorse, it's of the ironic, sarcastic, or whimsical variety -- and this weird t-shirt featuring President Elect Obama riding a unicorn has a touch of all three. Washington DC-based artist Chris Bishop is hocking tees that feature the two mythological figures in a type of timely and ironic equestrian pose -- ostensibly getting ready to gallop to the inauguration. But what exactly is this shirt really saying?

The shirt, while at first appearing whimsical and fun -- actually belies the kind of cynical undertones shunned by the Obama campaign and the whole Change movement. Not only that, but the design, featuring Obama mounted on a fairy tale creature, kinda reflects the idea that people are overestimating Obama's abilities as CEO of the USA. It also, probably quite unintentionally, alludes to the Barack the Magic Negro song stirring up the news media.

If this Chris Bishop guy is really trying to make a jaded broader political statement, he just might be a genius of political satire. Only a DC artist could hide such a cynical statement in such a cute and hilarious package. Chris Bishop for office 2010?
