New York Fashion Week is Shrinking
Honey, I shrunk New York Fashion Week! Call it the economy, call it designers changing with the times, call it what you want -- but the fact is that New York Fashion Week just keeps getting smaller. Most recently, Monique Lhuillier, wedding dress designer to the stars and Naeem Khan, renowned Indian designer, have dropped out. Maybe Naeem was just upset about the bad reviews over his last New York show, who knows.
Since shows typically cost upwards of $100,000, some speculate that this decision comes in the face of bad couture sales. However, Lluillier and Khan's rep (they are repped by the same firm) said that this isn't the case.
Straight from the horse's mouth, "We just wanted to do something different, shake things up a little bit -- it'll sell the clothes differently. Before, there's that one degree of separation -- the press and the buyers get a different sense of the clothing when they're flying past you on the runway as opposed to being able to stand next to them and having the fashion designer talk about the clothes."
