Big Juicy Pink Heart Bracelets at Posh and Prim BoutiqueToday we're chatting with jewelry designer and mom of 4, Janie. Her Parisian inspired whimsical designs are available at her own Dallas, Texas boutique, Posh and Prim, along with the upscale handmade designs of other artisans.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I am a mother of 4 and own an indie boutique in Dallas, TX named Posh and Prim. I've been designing jewelry for a little over 10 years now. My designs are called "My Flat in Paris Couture" and originated in 1998 when we moved from California to Paris, TX.

How did you get started as a designer? When my husband was released from the Navy from being disabled through the Desert Storm war, my income wasn't enough to support our family so I started making jewelry and selling my designs in local boutiques and beauty shops throughout our community.

Who are your favorite designers? I have several. I carry Krug's Eco-Logic in my boutique and her bath and body products are the best I have ever tried. I also like Paperhellos greeting cards and also love Dream A Little Dream's jewelry.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I must always have at least a pair of 3" heels and nice pair of jeans before I even leave the house each morning.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Never get discouraged because you're not selling enough. It took me 10 years to finally make a name for myself. You have to be determined. There are a lot of jewelry designers out there so the competition is very tough. You just have to be unique. Also, you must promote. Link referral is a great way to promote. Also being a member of Project Wonderful is great too.

Where can people find your work? I sell at Posh and Prim Boutique (www.poshandprim.com), Flourish Boutique, Trendy Shoppes, www.mfipc.etsy.com, ebay, and www.mfipc.artfire.com.

Anything else? I participated in 3 of the Etsy co-op ads for Bust, Venus and Craft Magazine so you can see my designs in this season's publication.

We love all of the amazing independent designers out there and we wanted to find out more about what makes these creative types tick. If you do too, check out more of our Indie Designer Interviews.
