Sure, we've all heard horror stories about the mercury levels in some forms of fish these days, but there's no denying that mercury aside, fish contains all sorts of fats and minerals that are good for your skin. So how dangerous is eating fish?
The National Fisheries Institute has put together this YouTube video to respond to Piven's claims about being poisoned by his fish heavy diet. According to the NFI:
"There is no peer reviewed evidence that anyone in the US has ever suffered from mercury poisoning from eating commercial seafood. Ever ... People in Japan eat 154 pounds of fish a year on average. If Piven ate 6 ounces of fish a day for his whole life, he'd still eat less than the average Japanese. Despite this, there is no public health concern about mercury in Japan."Look, we're not saying that Jeremy faked the whole thing just to get out of doing a Broadway show he was having second thoughts about.

I eat a ton of fish and seafood and it's never bothered me. Did he ever think he might be allergic to fish or certain seafoods? Some people are, though I suspect he just didn't want to do this job anymore and found an excuse.

Why does it matter if he isn't in the stupid play, isn't someone else taking his place? Who cares if he had the poops or the pukes or whatever;.

yeah, let's listen to the seafood industry- they definitely dont have any ulterior motives, like PROFIT MARGINS.
ugh, stupid argument too. saying that we don't have mercury here because Japan doesn't have mercury is like saying that earth doesn't have oxygen because mars doesn't. dumb.

Who cares if he had it or not. Who has time to care whether he was faking it or not. It's his life. If he wants to skrew it up then that's him. Either way it's none of my concern. For those of you that are concerned and seem to make it a big...get a life.

Man, I wish all I had to do to earn money was perform 8 acting shows a week, maybe then I could afford to live better than paycheck to paycheck and praying my daughters keep their 4.0 gpa's and hopefully earn a scholarship to a credited college so they can have a better adult life than my spouse and I and can provide better for their children than we did ours. Good grief, an alcoholic beverage is a luxury, an indulgance we've not been able to afford for years. Get a grip pansy. It's real adult to blame others for your lazieness and pour choices. If you play be willing to pay. Man, i need a life if i'm angry about someone else blowing a job they probably didn't NEED because they were blowing money they probably have to spare for drunksickness . Man, i need a drink-no i have to work tomorrow.

The person that wrote this article is seriously insensitive. I knew people like this in the navy. The only thing that I said back to people like this was to shutup. What's more important here the broadway show or this guy dying for mercury poisening. Had things gone much further the mercury levels in his blood would have caused madness and death. He would have been another star in a psych ward until death with no way back to a sane mind. This type of poisening caused the first emperor of china to go around the bend.

Yeah whats his face... I never liked him, don't even watch that HBO thing, I just simply change the channel. Heard he went to an awards ceremony arriving with some car trick for attention, left the same with no award what so ever.

I really dislike this man. He is so arrogant. Also, a few years ago, he was up for an emmy, so he did the talk show rounds. On EVERY show, he managed to mention that he is straight. Then, on Emmy night, I saw him interviewed on the red carpet multiple times, and at each, he said.. "I bet I am the only straight man to ever bring his mother to this show". Me thinks the queen doth protest too much. I dont believe he is straight and I dont believe him about the mercury poisoning.

There are probably a zillion actors who would step into that part. Did they think he would bring in a large number of people to see it? Or maybe this is just a way to get publicity for the play and Piven separately. I don't trust the industry

The waters of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans surrounding the US are polluted to the point that the majority of marine species are dying and disappearing at alarming numbers. Here in Kentucky we are advised not to eat freshwater species of fish because of the contaminants poured into the Ohio River by DuPont (Google Rubbertown) and the pharmaceutical industries. There is no marine life in the Ohio River which runs downstream to the Mississippi River. The Atlantic Ocean along the coast of the NE US takes feeds from Nuclear Power plants which dispose of their water waste into it - the mercury levels of the fish are listed here by our own FDA. Does this indicate they are safe? http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/admehg3.html
