L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Tubes Mascara - StyleFail

We totally wish we could afford Latisse, the the eyelash wonder drug that gives you longer, darker, fuller lashes. Since we can't, plus we're a little chicken when it comes to vanity medical procedures, we headed down to Walgreen's to pick up L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara, which claims to make your lashes 80% longer. For the bargain price of $7.99 (vs. $120/month for Latisse) we figured we couldn't lose. We were wrong.

Double Extend Beauty Tubes sounds really cool and scientific with a two part process. First you apply this thick white base that is suppose to nourish your lashes. Then you apply the lengthening top coat (we picked "blackest black, because what other color would you pick?) which makes the "tubes" that make your lashes longer.

L'Oreal claims that this stuff won't clump or flake, but that was not our experience. After we finished applying all of those coats, our lashes looked like dessicated spider legs. Sure, they were sort of longer, but they were also absolutely encrusted with makeup.

It wasn't even a tragi-glamour, Liza kind of too much, either. It just looked cruddy. But we might have gone back for a second try if the experience of removing the Beauty Tubes wasn't so weird and yucky.

As the package promises, the double formula mascara washes off with soap and water...well, it liquifies with soap and water, turning into this bizarre, stringy substance that is a cross between eyelash glue and latex paint. And it gets everywhere! It took forever to clean up!

So we decided to just toss the tube of Tubes and go back to Dior Show Black Out, at least until we get the nerve, and cash, to get Latisse.

I had the same terrible experience. I found the mascara became crumb-like when wet and then I got one stuck in my eye. It was awful.

Latisse....has the active ingredient that glaucoma patients have to take in eyedrops. I am one of those patients and can testify that it really makes you lashes longggggggggggg. I've been taking the eyedrops now for 9 months and my lashes are so long now. With just 1 coat of mascara, my lashes reach close to my eyebrows and actually get in the way of wearing eyeglasses. IT REALLY WORKS! I just wished I didn't have to take it with a severe eye condition, though........HOWEVER..........with medical insurance it's only $5 for .5 fluid ounces...

Ew. That stuff sounds terrible. My go to has been Colossal Mascara from Maybelline. I found that DiorShow has a tendency to dry out quickly and didn't feel like spending $24 every month. Also, Colossal doesn't flake or run. DiorShow has a tendency to flake on me...but maybe that's just me.

I have been using the Double Extend Beauty Tubes since it first became available in my city, and have been very pleased with it. It does not flake or become crumbly after wearing all day and comes off easily each night with Avon Eye Makeup Remover Lotion. It leaves little black "tubes" on the kleenex or cotton ball, The one question I had was whether or not it would be distributed in any other color than black. I am a very fair-skinned blonde ( my eyebrows and eyelashes are almost white, and both must be enhanced) and black makeup has not been recommended for my overall tones. I have been instructed to use brown tones or brownish black if no other is available, but black makes me look like I have run into not one, but two, doors! It's just too heavy a color for me--even on just eyelashes. The product did make my thining (as I get older)lashes appear fuller and longer. I liked it! Thanks.

i would say that this mascara is nasty. and most totally not worth the money i would of been better off if i would of just went and got a mascara at the dollar store.

I just got this mascara and I really like it. It really makes my lashes look longer. I did one eye with normal mascara and one with this kind and I could really tell the difference. Getting it off wasn't hard at all either! I really like it. It's the best I've had by far.

I use this and absolutely love it! It does not flake, crumble or smear, and my eyes don't look like 'dessicated' spider legs. Btw what does dessicated mean? It wasn't in the dictionary, but I digress, anyway my experience with this mascara was not the horrible experience described here. It comes off very easy with warm water, the tubes soften up and wash away. Like Barbara, I wish it came in more colors.

Double Extend Mascara is horrible. It made my eye lashes break and I have gaps of eye lashes missing.
