Nancy Judd and two models show off her trashion collection
Can't get enough inauguration-themed news about fashion designers who look to the trashcan for inspiration? Good, because that's what this post is about. The morning after election night 2008, Nancy Judd made a bee line for the dumpster behind the Obama campaign's headquarters in her hometown of Albuquerque. The collection that resulted from her dumpster diving was unveiled last Saturday at the Green Inaugural Ball.

Judd refers to the line of salvaged campaign junk as the "Campaign for Change Couture Collection." Her goal was to put together a "trashion" collection that would help make a green fashion statement at Obama's inaugural festivities. Saturday she realized her dream.

Some of the more noteworthy pieces created by Judd and her studio of 20 workers were: the "Obamanos" coat made of campaign door hangers, and the "Obama cocktail dress" made out of yard signs. The 1950's vintage "Obamanos" coat took a reported 200 man hours to make, and here's a piece of trivia for you -- it features a John McCain flyer under the right armpit. Ouch.

Nancy hopes that her artwork will help people approach environmental issues "in a really positive way that is fun and playful" rather than the all-too-common "we're all going to die kind of thing."
