Emerging Designers to Watch For in 2009
Filed under: Fashion, News, Designers & Brands
Shopflick has released their picks for the top rising stars of design for 2009 and we're happy to say that we totally saw this coming -- we've already scored interviews with more than half of these up and coming fashion sensations.
Here's a quick rundown of who made this year's cut:
Raquel Allegra – Ms. Allegra is a fave among celebs like Heidi Klum, Nicole Richie, and the Olsen twins, who all love her deconstructed, recycled wearable art created from Los Angeles county jail discards.
Verameat - Vera Balyura and her Verameat jewelry line is one of our favorites. We interviewed her about her quirky style inspirations in December and it's no wonder that Amy Sedaris, Miranda July and Tilda Swinton are also fans.
The Battalion – We knew sisters Linda and Chrys Wong were destined to make a big splash in 2009 with their eco-friendly line The Battalion when we interviewed them last year. Their green-chic looks have already been featured on the CW's 90210, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Julie Delpy and Ashley Olsen are all big fans of this up and coming brand.
KidViskous – Check back later this week for our interview with KidViskous designer Tiffany Lee, whose kitshy pop culture inspired jewelry has been winning over fans from around the world.
Popomomo – This eco-friendly line designed by Lizz Wasserman is one of our faves. We had the pleasure of interviewing her a few weeks ago, and we were delighted to learn that her sustainable fashions have been inspired by everything from an old accordian to Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome.
Cri de Coeur – This New York City based vegan shoe line founded by Gina Ferrarccio has been making waves among the eco-minded celebrity crowd. Natalie Portman, Portia de Rossi and Kristen Bell all count Cri de Coeur among their favorites for high-fashion, cruelty free footwear.
Yotam Solomon – This Israeli-born designer was one of the youngest designers to be featured at L.A.'s Fashion Week. At only 21 years old, he has already been featured in Women's Wear Daily, Los Angeles Magazine and British Vogue for his avante-garde shoes and clothing.
Violet Valen – Her one-of-a-kind sweatshirt couture pieces, the Buddy sweatshirts, have been a big hit among the laid-back L.A. underground. The wife of Stones Throw Records DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, Violet Valen has also worked for the Farrelly Brothers in addition to designing her wearable works of art. We interviewed her in December.
Justice Bodan – Designer David Grieco of Justice Bodan creates stunning accessories for men and women, combining his background in art sculpture with fine Italian leather belts, handbags, and more. To find out more, check out our interview with the designer.
