Jimi Hendrix, Still Hot

Who doesn't know and love the amazing Jimi Hendrix? One of his biggest fans, designer Christopher Wicks, has collaborated with Hendrix's stepsister, Janie Hendrix, to produce "The Jimi Hendrix Experience," a one-of-a-kind rock 'n roll line that is directly inspired by the "embroideries on his guitar straps" to the "garments that he wore."But obviously Wicks doesn't go at it alone. On his side, as mentioned, he's got Janie, who "ensures that the product is correct in its authenticity." Simply put, Wicks says the line is "the life and times of Jimi Hendrix. It's what Jimi Hendrix would wear today. The line is historic based on using patterns, fabrications and embroideries from the mid-sixties."
But Hendrix aside, we were curious as to what other 60's era musicians Wicks' company was into. Well, as if Jimi wasn't lofty enough, he recently scored the rights to Lennon/McCartney lyrics to add to his designs. He also recently partnered with musician/bad boy Scott Weiland who will guest design for his line English Laundry.
While we were absolutely digging guy's line hard, we noted a definite lack in the women's department. Wicks promised us ladies that we needn't worry about it because "the women's line is expanding ... so stay tuned." If "stay tuned" means a killer Hendrix inspired jacket is on the way in women's sizes, we will definitely keep our radar dead on the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

I just had a look at the collection. And, quite frankly, I don't think it really does Jimi's legacy justice at all. It's primarily in shades of black and white. And, I think Jimi would be going for something more colourful given his flamboyant playing style.
