Handmade Jewelry Meets Adorable Animals

Thunder the handmade knit stuffed horse from woolies.etsy.comToday's featured indie artist, Sara, got her creative start by knitting adorable stuffed animals inspired by the animals on her Arizona ranch. She has recently branched out into designing jewelry as well, and her jewelry shop, Buster and Boo, is currently filled with many sale items that are priced right for last minute Valentine's Day shoppers!

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I just want to make things. My primary 'craft' is knitting (my first Etsy shop is woolies.etsy.com, where I make a lot of knitted stuffed animals). Now I'm afraid I've gotten addicted to jewelry design. I look for vintage or really unusual beads and go from there! Next, I want to learn to throw pots, and weave. It's a bit out of control.

Lotus, paper bead earrings by busterandboo.etsy.comHow did you get started as a designer? My mother did knitting, needlepoint, sewing. It's all her fault! :)

What inspires your work? Animals and nature, primarily. Colors, textures -- all fascinate me. But animals are my true inspiration.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Go with your heart -- don't follow trends. Do what gives you joy.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? Jeans. Great hair. Pedicures.
