Eco-friendly Jewelry from Prismera Design

We're pleased to be chatting with jewelry designer Laura Su, whose eco-conscious jewelry collection, Prismera Design, is inspired by flora and fauna and crafted from stainless steel made from recycled materials.Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I'm a jewelry designer based in New York. My work is primarily botanical silhouettes but I also have some other types of nature inspired works.
How did you get started as a designer? I attended the Rhode Island School of Design and majored in Illustration. After school, I tried to get as many creative jobs as possible, from creating t-shirt designs to making websites.
What inspires your work? I've always been heavily influenced by the art nouveau style and by natural things like plants and organic textures. Having an illustration background also dictates the style of jewelry that I make.
Who are your favorite designers? I have so many favorites, it's really hard to choose. Right now I love Prairie Underground for their quirky and comfortable style and every season, I'm so excited for Mociun's new patterns. What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? For me, cardigans and scarves are essential; other than jewelry, they are the most versatile pieces you'll have in your closet. Aveda's Berry lip tint is always in my bag, it looks good on pretty much everyone and lasts forever.
Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? If you get discouraged, snap out of it, fast. Have a cupcake or take a walk. The sooner you shake off the nay-sayers, the sooner you can prove them wrong.
Where can people find your work? You can find a list of retailers that carry my pieces on Prismeradesign.com, which is also an online shop where you can view the entire line.
We love all of the amazing independent designers out there and we wanted to find out more about what makes these creative types tick. If you do too, check out more of our Indie Designer Interviews.

These designs are beautiful! I would love to see them paired with Chicago eco-clothing designer Melissa Baswell's line Mountains of the Moon.
