Feel Fuzzy Brings Us Back to Childhood Days

The adorable accessories from Feel Fuzzy have us doing just that -- cute brooches made from old jigsaw puzzles and wallets crafted from vintage tea towels and children's books make us nostalgic for when times were simpler. We caught up with designer Debi Jack to see what inspires her childlike whimsy.Tell us a little about yourself and your work. Hi there, my name is Debi and I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and am a graphic designer by day. I make new products from mostly vintage unwanted children's items, although I also make wallets from vintage tea towels. I am constantly thinking up the next thing; my head is full of ideas.
How did you get started as a designer? I have always been into arts and crafts, and have always made things for myself and friends, etc, and when I found Etsy I thought, "Wow, I can maybe try and sell some of my stuff," so I went for it. I have been crafting seriously now for about a year; I am trying to push it forward and get out there more, doing more promo stuff and more craft fairs, etc. It's a slow process.
What inspires your work? I am inspired by nostalgic memories from childhood and all things vintage. I also love good packaging; it inspires me to make my products as appealing as possible.Who are your favorite designers? I don't really wear designer names, so I don't have a favorite designer as such; I much prefer one-off vintage things.
What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I would say my must haves have to be some Nike Air high tops and a huge beanie to hold all my dreads in place; not exactly high fashion but I would be sad without them!
Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? I'm not sure I have nailed it enough myself yet to give out advice, but I would say keep it as original as possible, and always keep developing your products. I am always thinking of ways to improve and add quality to my existing products.
Where can people find your work? People can find my work online at www.feelfuzzy.etsy.com; I also have wallets for sale at www.littlepaperplanes.com.
Anything else? I am currently between jobs so I am taking this time to make as much as possible. It's great, but also scary as to whether I will have any money by the end of the month; I finally know what it's like to be a struggling artist!
We love all of the amazing independent designers out there and we wanted to find out more about what makes these creative types tick. If you do too, check out more of our Indie Designer Interviews.
