POP Beauty founder Sara Strand commands attention wherever she is. Whether she's rocking out onstage to jazz and rock fusion tunes with her band or playing up her flaming red tresses with neon blue eyeliner, Strand steals the spotlight. The Swedish singer-makeup artist-cosmetics mogul is a beauty biz veteran -- she and her two sisters, Petra, a makeup artist, and Sofia, an aesthetician, created Pixi, a brand consisting of fresh, multi-purpose products that help women create a natural and effortless look-in the late 90s. But aspirations to develop a brand that embody her vibrant and colorful experiences lead to the birth of POP Beauty.
POP stays true to its name with bright and pulsating lipsticks, eyeshadows, blushes, and nail lacquers in five playful collections including London Live, Belle, and Shake Up Your Makeup. Strand has managed to package her personality in POP-cosmetics that add intensity to your look, while maintaining a feminine allure.
We caught up with Strand while she was in New York to give a concert during Fashion Week:
StyleList: How do you balance running a beauty brand and being a rock star?
Strand: Good question, I guess I don't sleep (she jokes). No, but I have a fabulous team that I work with that makes it all possible. The rock star thing is a nocturnal venture most of the time and I go into the studio on the weekends and evenings. Notes and tones of color are very similar to me; it's the same and they have always gone hand in hand for me so its only natural for me to divide my time between the two.StyleList: What are your favorite POP products to wear during performance?
Strand: POP has so many great stage products that I don't know where to start if I have to choose just a few. At the moment, I can't live without the Magnet Collection that primes and holds onto your make-up all night! Don't take my word for it, try it and you will see that it truly works! They're the best bases to really make pigments POP and stay on.
