The Right Way To Shampoo - Tip of the Day!
Filed under: Hair Care, Fashion, Hair, How to Wear
We were lucky enough to score an interview with some lovely ladies, Nikki and Riawna, from the Ken Paves Salon in Hollywood. Between the two of them, they have tons of experience, an amazing knowledge bank on the topic, and a crazy client list to boot (think Lindsay Lohan, Colin Farrell, and Eva Longoria). So I rolled what we got from these two into a week's worth of tips so you can look like you just walked out of the Ken Paves Salon. Did you know that you aren't even supposed to be shampooing your hair at all? Yes, it's true. Riawna and Nikki filled me in on the do's and don'ts of properly shampooing and conditioning to achieve salon perfect hair.
"Shampoo is made to cleanse the scalp, not necessarily the hair. When you rinse the shampoo and the suds run down the hair shaft, they cleanse the hair. The ends are always so dry on most people they don't need to be scrubbed. Conditioner should always be applied to the ends first, then the remainder should be combed through in the shower. And yes, ladies, we recommend everyone to have a wide tooth comb in the shower!"
Some additional tips include:
• Shampoo dries out hair so shampoo at least every other day. Use dry shampoo, like Unite 7 Seconds, to go a little longer.
• Clarifying shampoo is great to rinse out extra product but should only be used once a week max. If used daily it can strip hair of moisture.
• Women who buy products from the grocery store often misdiagnose their hair. Ask your stylist what to use and stick to it! (For example, curly girls should always use moisturizing products.)
