The Look of Lauren Conrad
She may have shot to fame on MTV's Laguna Beach, but with her brand-new fashion line, Lauren Conrad has become a style star in her own right. Here, LC hits the Late Show with David Letterman in one of her own designs to promote the bonus season of The Hills. LC revealed to Dave that she and ex-BFF Heidi Montag will "probably not" patch things up. Juicy!

At a 2007 Grammy kick-off party, Conrad opted for a red, ruffled mini with plunging neckline. Her bag of choice? A self-designed clutch for Linea Pelle. (Yes, she also designs her own line of handbags.)

Conrad chose a shimmery 1920's-inspired shift dress from her own collection for the 2007 Video Music Awards. LC admits that her love of fashion started years before The Hills. "When I was six, my neighbor taught me to paint and draw. We would sew and make clothes for my Barbie doll," she explains. Her favorite designers? Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and Marc Jacobs.

LC wore one of her own creations when she picked up a trophy at the 2007 Teen Choice Awards. This cute teal bubble dress was a "one-of-a-kind that I designed specifically to wear to the Teen Choice Awards," explains Conrad. She paired it with a skinny vintage belt and Jimmy Choo metallic heels.

According to Conrad's reps, she's pulling the line to give herself time to revamp it, perhaps experimenting with premium fabrics. We question the logic of doing something that will push up the price point when the line suffered from poor sales. Isn't everyone trying to save money these days?
That said, we always thought the line was wearable but a bit ... lackluster, especially considering what we're sure she's capable of creating. If Lauren is serious about being a designer, we think she's smart to use her newly available time this way.
We'll definitely be watching to see what she comes up with!
Celeb Fashion Lines
These days, no self respecting celebrity can hold her (or his) head up in Hollywood without a clothing, shoe, handbag, or home furnishings line to call their own. But are these stars really qualified to add designer to their resume? StyleList puts them to the test. First up...
Celeb:Taylor Swift
Fashion Line: L.E.I. Sundresses by Taylor Swift
Qualifications:The young country singer is releasing a line of frocks this February that her die-hard fans will love and moms can afford. We're sure Swift's brand will expand into denim.

Celeb: Dita Von Teese
Fashion Line: Science of Sexy for Wonderbra
Qualifications: This burlesque bombshell spends most of her time in scanty skivvies, so we're absolutely confident she is capable of creating amazing lingerie! Of her '40s and '50s-inspired line Von Teese says "Underwear isn't just something that you put on for your lover -- you wear it for you."

Celeb: Lauren Bush
Fashion Line:Lauren Pierce (hits stores in Spring 2009)
Qualifications: An alum of both Parsons New School for Design in NYC and Central Saint Martins College in London, first niece and former model Lauren Bush definitely has a solid design foundation. Add to that an internship at Zac Posen, a boyfriend with a designer dad (her main squeeze is Ralph Lauren's son) and the success of the popular FEED bags she designed to benefit the U.N.'s World Food Program, and it looks like Ms. Bush has the chops to make her ready-to-wear sustainable fabrics line a hit.

Celeb: Eva Mendes
Fashion Line: Vida for Macy's
Qualifications: Calvin Klein's latest controversial ad campaigns features a naked Eva Mendes rolling around on a bed, so perhaps her new venture isn't really all that surprising. The actress and her boyfriend, film producer George Augusto, are launching a collection of sheets and comforters. While neither has any design background, we're betting the betting the lovebirds know how to make a cozy nest.

Celeb: Mischa Barton
Fashion Line: Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus
Qualifications:The former O.C. star gets more ink these days for her hair accessories than her acting jobs so maybe this is a brilliant career move: She's coming out with a line of headbands made from a wide array of materials including silk, feathers and crystals, ranging in price from $40-$200.

Celeb: Janet Jackson
Fashion Line:Pleasure Principle
Qualifications:Named after her 1987 hit, the fancy pants (and matching bras) will all retail for under $40. "There's something for every woman, and that's very important to us," Jackson says. "I've always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key." Nothing nasty about that, Miss Jackson.
Arnold Turner, AP
Celeb: Lenny Kravtiz
Fashion Line: Inspired by Lenny, Worn by You at Kohls
Qualifications:Hmmm, we're not sure that even Lenny's biggest fans would be inspired to wear this denim, fringe and wings ensemble, but fortunately for those who do want to emulate the the rocker's style, his jeans and t-shirts line for Kohls is a bit more traditional.
Kevin Mazur, WireImage
Celeb: Tara Reid
Fashion Line: Manta
Qualifications:Sometimes an actress, always a party girl, and now a designer. According to Reid her little triangles of Lycra are more than simple poolside attire, "It's about putting into the universe what you want in life: Red means love, pink is friendship, green is lucky, black is protection. You're gonna have a story when you wear this bikini or when you put this dress on: You'll either get love or meet a new friend or you might meet a guy." Big promises from little bikinis!
Casey Rodgers, WireImage.com
Celeb: Katie Holmes
Fashion Line: Holmes/Yang for Giorgio Armani
Qualifications: Mrs. Tom Cruise created her own storm at the LA premiere of "Tropic Thunder," debuting the first piece from her collection with stylist pal Jeanne Yang. But given the dress's sleek lines and navy blue fabric two Giorgio Armani trademarks it's a good bet that Katie got more than a little help from her silver-haired mentor.

Celeb: La Lohan
Fashion Line: 6126 Leggings
Qualifications:Lindsay Lohan's collection owes its name to Marilyn Monroe born on 6/1/26 but it doesn't look like she captured what made the '50s bombshell so sexy. Does the modern American woman really need leopard print "ankle gloves"? Or glimmer leggings? Seems like La Lohan is channeling no one but...Lindsay.

Do you mean that I'm not the only one who has no opinion or knowledge of these product lines? Thanks for making me feel better. I like to take the votes at the ends of these articles, but honestly couldn't this time because my answer wasn't available: "I have no opinion because I've never heard of any of these."
jay z 3-24-2009 @ 7:10AM
dull and boring, she needs to come up with a cool name that that fits with american culture .................something like ROCA WEAR
( Negro Slang for ROCK COCAINE) In the "hood" you ask for "Roca" instead of cocaine therefore you have a better defense in a court of law. How "cool" is that? Roca Wear even makes baby clothes! We just love em.Get some for your kids today.and while yer at it get em some of them candy "smarty smokes" then you will be as smart as your kids.

I guess any old ignoramus can have a computer, including you. Had you done any research at all you would know that Jay-Z was the head of hip hop label Roc-a-Fella records, thus a clothing line was born of a similar name. It has nothing to do with drugs. Every black person on the planet does not do drugs and how childish of you to take a $700 million empire and reduce it to a stupid comment like that.

I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU GOT YOUR MISINFORMATION...IT'S ALL WRONG AND SO ARE YOU FOR SPOUTING THAT GARBAGE !!!!!!
Lassie 3-24-2009 @ 7:41AM
Who is Lauren Conrad? I've never heard of her, and I never heard of her 'clothing line', either. Yeah, that 'switching to premium fabrics' is a real bright move, I can't wait!... I hope Lindsey Lohan's leggings, with built in knee pads, end up in the thrift stores soon - we, the destitute, could use them for long underwear next winter, lol!

Who are these people. No talent Unatractive and all ego.

Randy 3-24-2009 @ 11:05AM
Excuse me but what talent does she have? All she did was lend her name to a few designers in the hopes of getting rich. She was a one-season-wonder and that is all. She's a nobody and she ought to go back to school, finish what she started and get on with life and realize that her 15 minutes are UP!
I find it odd that she is constantly paraded about as a 'celebrity'. We live here in Laguna and we just don't get it. As far as the MTV Laguna Beach show is concerned it was not a good thing for our town. The show exemplified what is negative about Orange County and did not have anything to do with the 'real people' who live here. Look at Talan Torriero, he moved up to LA to 'follow his dream'. He totally flopped. His high school buddies have already graduated and are on with their lives and he's still waiting for his phone to ring.

You are soooo right....I feel the same way, I do not buy anything endorsed by an actor, singer, or anyone that has made it on their body or looks, very superfisial people, that's the problem in the US, people feel entitled, can't get it honestly through hard work they steal, lie, cheat and con people, the older I get the sicker it makes me.......Thanks for your opinion....
Anne 3-24-2009 @ 12:56PM
There are so many actors out there. They're getting to be very generic. No strong character actors as in the past. Everyone wants to be the star. End result...no one knows who they are. And why should we buy their clothes? They don't design them. They just pick them out from the choices put in front of their face by line-builders.

Doesn't Sara Jessica Parker have some sort of half-baked clothing venture out there in SuckerswillbuyanythingLand?

MadMatt 3-24-2009 @ 2:03PM
Sarah has a horse face. She has a line of clothes at Dave and Barry's. When they signed on with these "celebrities" like Stephon Marbury, SJP and a Williams's sister that is when their business went to crap. Dave and Barry's is in BK status because of these LOSERS. Who the eff is Lauren Conrad and why would I want to wear her crappy style? That goes double for Sean John, the man-whore!

The Hills are over with, even though the Heidi , Spencer duo will do anything to revive their fifteen minutes of fame. Lauren should go back to school and keep designing if thats her passion. She did what every person would do and thats doing all you can with your fifteen minutes of fame. I think she just wasnt ready for her own clothesline. The City is much better than the Hills. There are so many reality people trying to stay in the public eye with little or no talent. Heidi has a horse face along with SJP (i agree with you MadMatt). It was ridiculous that the people on the show were trying to get a career in Fashion... it was even ridiculous how they brought in their siblings to try and make them famous... Audrina looks drugged out all the time, her eyes are always rolling back !
