We recently caught up with jewelry designer John Medeiros. The son of European immigrants, John designs beautiful original jewelry, all of which is handcrafted in the United States, and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

How did you get started as a designer? I started working after school in the jewelry industry. I've worked at every level from manufacturing to engineering, and eventually to designing within the jewelry industry. At first I was a manufacturer, and then I started working with the engineers. The designers would show me their designs and eventually I began to design myself. And slowly, over time, I began my own line, John Medeiros.

What inspires your work? I am inspired by anything and everything. Though I must say the thing that most inspires me are the raw materials. I think it comes from my manufacturing and engineering background. I know the materials and what they can do. I'll see a stone and suddenly start sketching.

Who are your favorite designers? I have a few that I like to follow -- to see what they are doing and what the trends are, but I like to keep that confidential.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I think all women should have a bracelet. Definitely a bracelet. And then earrings. And a necklace, but definitely a bracelet.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Keep your originality and creativity. And don't be afraid to try something that no one else is doing.
