Carmen Electra could be the hardest-working woman in show business. And by show I mean "show up."
In her 15 years in the public eye she has passed through different stages of fame as if they were stations of the cross, from Prince protege (and luv-uh) in 1995 to Playboy model and MTV personality; she was Mrs Dennis Rodman for a year, had an affair with Tommy Lee (eww!) and possibly Joan Jett (yay!) and is currently engaged to former Korn touring guitarist Rob Patterson. Now she is a cheerful hired gun for everything from Taco Bell to Vitamin Water, whose vitaminwater10 launch she put some razzle-dazzle in Thursday night.

In person, she is sharp as a tack. Years ago at a Pussycat Dolls event, where she was trussed up in a stage outfit like Bondage Barbie, I asked her how such an intelligent woman could pour herself into an outfit like that. "I just give the people what they want," she said with a shrug.

And giving the people what they want was what she did at the Vitamin Water pop-up store on Broadway in New York, dancing with the gorgeous DJ Kiss in her booth and chatting with fans. With her fiance on her arm and wearing a short Rozae Nichols dress, she was the picture of effortless celebrity.

Fortunately the event organizers had thought to put some vodka in the little 10-calorie, "naturally sweet" bottles of Vitamin Water, which lubricated the evening nicely. The actor and musician Shane West wandered in and played some Wii on a sofa; two handsome gentlemen turned out to be Olympic silver medalists in fencing. Each had a business card with his picture on it and the words "Olympic silver medalist" under his name. CariDee English, one of approximately 300 people who seem to have won a cycle of "America's Next Top Model," came and left.

If you're in New York, you can visit the Vitamin Water pop-up store at 626 Broadway until April 12 for "special guests and performances." Although, sadly, I don't think they're still giving away vodka.
