Weekend Hair Roundup - Jessica Simpson in French Braids, Cassie Sports a Half-Britney

This weekend, Jessica Simpson was seen sporting an elaborate French braid.

We love this look -- we totally remember spending hours weaving our friends' mops in junior high, considering it a major badge of honor if you could actually French braid yourself.

Well, our adolescent plait practice is finally paying off - braids are right on trend for spring. We saw them on the runways and they're popping up on tons of celebrities, too. And we've got the expert scoop on how to get them (see the gallery below).

But Jessica wasn't the only one with a new 'do this weekend; singer Cassie has shaved her head. What on Earth provoked her to pull a half-Britney?

According to Daily News, she Tweeted a series of messages explaining and showing off the look: "Sometimes in life, you need a change ... Something deeper than what you thought you were capable of ... Something that displays the 'I don't give a f---' attitude that was always present, but never showcased ... & something that will shock your mother, but make her call you a ROCK STAR."

We're gonna vote for Jessica's look over Cassie's, because Cassie's clearly taking the crazy pills. Sorry Cassie, we respect your decision to massacre your pretty locks, but we can't really condone it.

According to The Daily Mail, though, Jessica's pretty head got tired and she took the braid out after dinner. We don't blame her -- that thing looked pretty tight! Pulling the hair too tight can cause breakage along your hairline, just like with a ponytail. So braid carefully -- and follow our tips above for scoring the perfect plait.

I'm a little partial to the French braids -- my hair has been layered and/or short for most of the last 10 years, and if I want to keep it all up and out of my face without using 20 clips and headbands, this is the best option. And, I'll proudly say that I can totally braid my own!

I think it's ridiculous that these people can't have a "day off" without people like "Annie Scott" or these other people with no talent busting on them for what their hair looks like, or if they show a quarter inch of their underwear. Talk about dumbing down the news. I wish Tom Cruise or someody else with money to burn would hire poparazzi to tail them around all day & camp in front of their house. Maybe they could go through their trash & take pictures through their windows until they get what it feels like.

i think jessica look great skinny fat plumpy dont matter she is a beautiful girl with a great voice i like her sister style of music more but they both beautiful and the hair looks great on her everyone is hating on her

When I was in high school, I would wear my hair in a french braid across my head, kind of like Jessica's, spritzed with a little water, then take it out at night for wavy hair. Maybe that's why she took it out? :-)
