Brow Advice for Susan Boyle - "Send Her to Hollywood for 3 Months and She'd Look Like A Different Person"

That voice? Unbelievable. Those brows? Unbelievable.
If you've been anywhere near a television or computer for the past few days, no doubt you're as obsessed as we are with Susan Boyle, the 47-year-old Scottish spinster who gained instant stardom after her audition for Britain's Got Talent -- during which she stunned an auditorium full of scowling naysayers (Simon Cowell included) with a breathtaking performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables.
Watch it here. You'll cry. Trust us.
But what style watchers can't ignore about this show biz newbie is that she's totally untouched. A fashion and beauty virgin. A woman in her natural state. To the media eager to harness a fraction of her 13 million (and counting) YouTube views, a diamond in the rough.
As any beauty lover knows, as far as subtle, true-to-your-style makeovers are concerned, the brows are the best place to start. "Send her to Hollywood for three months and she'd be a different person," says Anastasia Soare, Los Angeles' go-to brow guru, who's a Boyle fan herself -- "Susan's voice is amazing!"
But those brows. "Because of her brows she has a very masculine look," said Soare, who was schooled in architecture in her native Romania. "They're too high on top, and too low at the bottom." She recommends taking a few layers off the top and bottom to thin out the brows, then creating an arch just left of center give them shape.
"It would do miracles," says Soare. "She absolutely has potential."
We'll see how long it takes for the makeover happen (perhaps on her rumored upcoming Oprah appearance?). But right now we're still riding the high of seeing this 47-year-old style virgin make it big.

"Send her to Hollywood for 3 months and she'd be a different person."
That has to be the best thing I've read in a long, long time.

"Send her to Hollywood. . . and she'd be a different person." And that's the best thing you've ever read? I guess you haven't opened many books. (War and Peace, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Sense and Sensibility, all have escaped you?) And why would you want Susan Boyle to turn into a different person? The whole point of this video is that someone who's authentic--with a deep, sonorous sense of self--parted her lips, and we heard the song of God.
But that's superficiality for you. Maybe--oh, gee--she can get her brows shaped!
Amanda referred to this moment of transcendence as a wakeup call.
I guess not everyone woke up.

What? You think her voice would be soooo much nicer with designer brows? Oh please leave her alone. What if she is perfectly happy with the way she looks? Not everyone wants to look like a shaved, sprayed, waxed and polished piece of recyclable Tupperware. I think she is adorable. Unless she is directly asking for your advice, better off to keep your plumped and glossed trap shut. (FYI: I'm an ex-catwalk model....and being from that industry, it's a sheer relief to meet people unconcerned with a false exterior.) Send her to Hollywood and turn her into another cheesy clone? I think not. It's like giving the Mona Lisa a boob job and some collagen injections. With all due respect to your "beauty advice", I buy CD's to listen to them, not critique the fashion faux pas.

Living in Britain, I watched the show, and was totally blown away by this ordinary looking woman that we could not believe was 47.
Susan Boyle is a totally natural person living an every day life with it's ups and downs and highs and lows.
Her Incredible Voice and personality sells herself, let's hope that others don't change this. all though her life won't be the same again, leave out the make-overs and fast cars and jets and lavish holidays, let her just be Susan Boyle, The Lady who Wowed the World in her own style and way

I was so touched with emotion when I heard her sing. I played the video several times and will play it again. This is such a treat for me as should be for everyone. Susan Boyle is a delight and a song bird. My heart and prayers go out to her and she should win this contest hands down, if not just sign her a contract, I want to hear more from her. What a great voice.

enough with the masks 4-17-2009 @ 1:47PM
Let's leave her alone. Why have her put on a mask?
Lyrics from her first song include:
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame.
She's perfect just the way she is. Listen to her voice, forget the eyebrows.
Listen to her version of "Cry me a river." Wow!

Susan Boyle Doesn't need other people directing her because they think she should be something other than what she is!
Personally, I would love to help her with her appearance., but is that my business? I don't think so.
It is up to her! Noone helped her get where she is now., thank you! She has been alone and
did very well in spite of it!
I say leave her alone. She is a charming person and cute as is!

Yes, Susan is a naturally beautiful woman with a beautiful voice! And I am a professional vocalist and voice instructor/coach myself. My concern is with anyone, not just this lovely lady, who says she does not care about her appearance. As a behavioral expert (I am also a doctor of psychology), I am aware that humans are holistic beings. That means that every part of ourselves, from the inside to the outside, is valuable enough to be cared for to the best of our ability. Taking care of one's self (e.g., spiritually, creatively, physically, etc.) is part of loving ourselves. If any part is neglected, then that means we are neglecting ourselves in some way. I absolutely do not believe that Susan needs to be made over in the image of Hollywood (please no!), but she does deserve to know that she is worth putting her best foot forward on the outside, just as she does so on the inside.

Susan looks like a cousin I had growing up. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If people took all the women in any given city block, there would be women who looked just as ordinary as Susan. Carol Brunette started out as less than a Miss USA beauty. She did OK, and even had a good voice.
I like the eyebrows. Brook Sheilds had big eyebrows for a long time. http://www.fertileprayers.blogspot.com
