How To Score Sienna's Surprisingly Realistic Tan (and Hopefully a Matthew Williamson for H&M Dress)

If you've ever been convinced that this life wasn't for you, that really, you should be lounging in Ibiza or Goa with drink in hand and floor pillow nearby, then I say run - don't walk - to your local H&M and pray you can still get your hands on pieces from the just-launched Matthew Williamson exotic capsule collection. And don't fret it the racks are totally depleted, his summer delivery hits stores on May 14th. But dear God, if you are lucky enough to find one of his flow-y butterfly-print dresses, at least work a (faux) tan. Sienna Miller, Williamson's longtime muse, best exemplifies the kind of dusty, well-earned tan that goes so well with his clothing.
It suggests the sort of slow-and-steady, weeks-long bake that one gets if they have no real reason to get back indoors and under tacky, fluorescent office lights.
And makeup artist Ashley Ward, who works with Miller, told me how to get it.
Just say no to shimmer. "Sienna's tan is that acrid desert goddess tan," says Ward. "It's really matte, because that looks the most natural." (It makes sense: When's the last time you got a glittery sunburn?)

For a desert glow (as opposed to a "Miami glow"), Ward suggests Lancôme's new Tropiques Minérale Smoothing Pressed Bronzer ($38.50) and Chanel's limited edition Soleil Tan de Chanel Precious Bronzing Loose Powder ($65).
Go full on. A touch of bronzer is nice for some folks, but to look like a seriously chic sun-worshipper, it's important to dust bronzer on those often-overlooked areas, like over the eyelids and underneath the eyes. "You'll never catch a Brazilian girl with a ring-around-the-sunglasses tan," says Ward. "It's important to get every inch."
Apply your eye makeup last. To avoid looking like you've been caught in a sandstorm, apply your eye makeup last, says Ward. After all, nothing's chic about bronzer-dusted lashes.
