Carla Bruni Embroiled in Photo and Fashion Dramas

Carla's colorful past -- which includes dating Mick Jagger and Donald Trump, in addition to posing for nude photos during her days as a supermodel -- keeps threatening to erupt into a royal scandal. So far, she's been able to keep everything under control, and look fabulous doing it. But is that all about to change?

Ooh la la! Political spouses in the US are expected to keep a low profile and support their significant other, ideally in a red suit (or blue, depending on the affiliation. But over in France, things are a bit different. Their First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, is a musician and a former supermodel who has been photographed wearing even less than this creation from Jean Paul Gaultier's 1997 Fringe Bikini collection.

On April 27, Bruni-Sarkozy met Princess Letizia of Spain. The Eurpean first ladies dressed up for a gala dinner at the Zarzuela Palace outside Madrid. Bruni went for classic, Audrey Hepburn-esque glamour in a black backless dress, while the Princess donned a dress befitting of her title - an eggshell blue satin gown with a glittering train.

This week marks Bruni-Sarkozy's inaugural visit to the U.S. as First Lady of France. Since marrying French President Nicolas Sarkozy in February after a whirlwind romance, Madame Sarkozy has charmed diplomats, heads of state and even the notoriously critical French public.

Madame Bruni-Sarkozy (in a purple Christian Dior suit) looks a bit shocked at a Bastille Day ceremony in July. Earlier that week, the singer/songwriter did the seemingly impossible and startled French sensibilities with her new album, on which she sings "You are my junk. More deadly than Afghan heroin. More dangerous than Colombian white (powder)," adding: "My guy, I roll him up and smoke him."

On the same album Bruni-Sarkozy sings that "I am a child/ Despite my 40 years/ Despite my 30 lovers/ A child," which must have been a great conversation starter when she and her husband welcomed Pope Benedict XVI and a contingent of priests from the Vatican in early September.

Earlier this summer, Bruni-Sarkozy played hostess to another religious leader. The Dalai Lama showed the retired super model the proper way to wear a Tibetan prayer shawl.

Entertaining famous and powerful men is nothing new for Bruni, who was at one time better known for her boyfriends than her career. Past conquests include musicians Eric Clapton (her date at this 1992 party thrown by Sting) and Mick Jagger.

The British papers went wild for Carla when she and her husband made a state visit to London in March. Columnists were torn: was she the new Jackie Kennedy or Diana, reborn? Fashion insiders were unanimous however, in heaping praise on the 40-year-old's wardrobe, which consisted of the best of the Paris couture houses.

Both women looked beautiful at a state lunch, wearing conservative, high-necked, knee-covering dresses. But Princess Letitizia took the crown. Apparently, her killer 5" stilettos trumped Carla's not-sexy-enough kitten heel Louboutins.
We can't wait to hear what happens next. As they say, when it rains (in Spain), it pours!

I thought we in the United States fought a Revolutionary War to get rid of all this royalty hooplah. Carla Bruni is not a royal. Why does the Press insist on filling our heads with this irrelevant garbage. The Kennedy's are not "American Royalty". They are the descendents of a Nazi leaning rum running philaderer.

Well said and all truthful. The only family with a worse, criminal background is the Bush dynasty. They are a step away from 'royalty' and look how they hoodwinked America for a 12 years of reign. The damage that Lil Bush has caused will bring turmoil to the world for decades and decades. Is it any surprise that Bush senior swore alligance to the English throne? If you don't think our world is really ruled by a handful of evil mosters, then you will be the type that actually gets excited by what some Princess is wearing.

Aol trying to make a story out of nothing. They were family pictures nothing discriminateing was on them just family pictures. Carla is beautiful, and looked up on net pictures of Queen Letizia of Spain very beautiful also. Both made entrances like a cat walk. Both wore similar kind of outfits said Carla outshined but Letizia was given the edge for complete outfits, though similar, because of Queen Letizias stellito heels something she can get away with cause her husband the King of Spain is 6 inches taller then her. Both are beautiful wouldn't want to have to pick between them.

This post is a factual embarrassment. Writing about non-existent cat fight when are are confusing the wife of Spain's crown prince (that's the former TV journalist Letizia -- note the correct spelling) and the wife of prime minister Zapatero suggests that this blog shouldn't deal in such topics. (And perhaps that AOL shouldn't channel large numbers of people to it.)
You have an opportunity to inform people, in addition to entertain them with cat fights that may or may not exist. You should get the most basic details correct.

If the President of France married a woman with a turbulent and sordid past that's his problem and he knew that sooner or later he would be affected .
As to Letizia, she has become a dignified princess, that one day would be a great queen of Spain.
They are two completely different personalities and come from s very different backgrounds.
