Models, stylists, and designers came together for the Third Annual Design Cares--a fashion benefit in support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at The Armory in New York City. Last night's event featured a runway show of exclusive evening gowns that were auctioned in support of the world's premier pediatric cancer research and treatment center. And StyleList got an all-access beauty pass to catch up with makeup artist Chantel Miller and hairstylist Edward Tricomi as they worked their magic.SHOW: Kaleidoscope of Dreams – Fashion Event for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

THE SCOOP: Chantel Miller created a look that was influenced by the 1920s and British-born heiress Nancy Cunard. "It's all about those elements when you think of classic period makeup--the big smoky eye and dark lip." Working on a range of diverse models, Miller added a modern edge by incorporating silver metal pigment at the center of the eyelid and a burgundy lip gloss instead of a "traditional blocked out lip."
To create a stark contrast between the lash line, the makeup artist used a jet black water-activated liner before fading upwards into a sheer black. Miller's trick for achieving that dewy, metallic effect on the eyes was combining the silver pigment with a mixing medium. "It turns it into a liquid that can be painted on wet and moved around using the fingers," she said. To finish the look, she placed a soft gold liner into the inner corners of the eye and used MAC Pro Lipmix in Burgundy to add "a bit of refinement and sophistication."
Hair stylist Edward Tricomi developed different styles for each model, but drew inspiration from the 1920s to the 1960s. "It's classic, but yet we want to give it that old-new feeling," said Tricomi. With his secret weapon in hand--flexibile hair spray--he molded styles that ranged from long, luxurious curls to elongated chignons (as pictured left). "I saw the dresses beforehand, but I knew I wanted to play with the looks and have fun."GET THE LOOK-MAKEUP: MAC Pro Crème Liner in Black; MAC Pro Fluidline in Blacktrack; MAC Pro Pigment in Silver; MAC Zoom Lash in Zoomblack; MAC Pro Eye Kohl in Powersurge; MAC Pro Lipmix in Burgundy
