Stuck in the Middle - StyleList Talks to Bioré and Caudalie About Neither Here Nor There Skin

Young woman with in between skinBioré has a whole new skincare range from its Skin Preservation line for "inbetween skin" -- too old for acne, too young for wrinkles.

Caudalie (an all-natural, wine-derived product line from France) also has launched a similar line, "First Wrinkle."

StyleList chatted with Bioré Brand Manager Nina Cornwell and Caudalie Founder Mathilde Thomas about this limbo land predicament, and why people with in-between skin need their own line of products.

StyleList: All right. I'm stumped. What is "inbetween skin?"

Bioré: When you are past the angst of teenage acne but not yet ready for heavy duty anti-aging products, you have inbetween skin. The products you used as a teenager dry out your skin, while anti-aging products are too greasy and can clog your pores.

StyleList: And are the First Wrinkle products for women with or without wrinkles?

Caudalie: First Wrinkle is for women and men with wrinkles and fine lines, but with no problem of sagging skin.

StyleList: Why have you created a new line of products for this niche?

Bioré: There are over 21 Million women with inbetween skin and they have been ignored in the skin care aisle. There are plenty of products for teenagers with acne and a multitude of anti-aging products for older women, but nothing made specifically for women with inbetween skin. With Bioré Skin Preservation, now there are.

Caudalie: First, because I saw too many 30 year olds using anti-aging creams not adapted for their age (with firming ingredients they did not need). Second, because my customers were asking me for it.

StyleList: What are the special needs of inbetween skin and First Wrinkle skin?

Caudalie: You need to protect, moisturize, smooth wrinkles, vitaminize, and refine pores. To protect, First Wrinkle offers 100% protection from free radical exposure, and to moisturize, it infuses skin with small hyaluronic acid (it is the next generation of hyaluronic acid with a lower molecular weight) to replump the epidermis. First Wrinkle also smooths away wrinkles with lifting fern and peptides, and feeds the skin with vitamins -- using an all-natural cocktail of orange, echinacea, royal jelly, ginger and ginseng. We also minimize pores with soft grape acids.

Bioré: Women with in-between skin are starting to notice that their skin has changed. They are beginning to notice that it is drier than it was in the past, it is starting to become uneven and getting dark spots or marks, it's not as smooth as it once was and it has lost radiance and luminosity.

StyleList: If someone were to try just one of your products to see if it made a difference, which would you recommend?

Bioré: Bioré Skin Preservation Dual Fusion Moisturizer + SPF 30. Its dual formula gives you UVA/UVB sun protection and optimal hydration in one easy pump. The unique dual chambered package contains a nourishing moisturizer on one side to strengthen inbetween skin today with Botanamide (tm) Technology and the other side contains SPF 30 to preserve inbetween skin for tomorrow. Together, they strengthen and preserve without being greasy.

Caudalie: Pulpe Vitaminée Serum, because it has the highest concentration of all the ingredients I previously mentioned.

So, there you have it. Finally, skincare products that aren't trying to fix us so much as protect us.

Bioré products are available in your local drugstore, as always, and if you haven't tried Caudalie, whatever your skin type, they have something for you!
