'HOME' Schooled

Earth Matters! The environmentally aware film "HOME" opens tomorrow. Image courtesy of PPR.
The film, which is being released tomorrow (June 5) in 100 countries and 23 languages in honor of World Environment Day, is a colossal collaboration among scientists, movie-makers, and even the world's biggest fashion backer.
"HOME" was entirely supported by PPR -- the French company that can lay claim to Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Puma, Sergio Rossi and more. Even more impressive is that PPR's CEO, Francois-Henri Pinault, is not expecting any return on this particular and large ($14 million) investment.
The film will be released simultaneously in all mediums tomorrow (June 5) with numerous screenings being held free of charge. (Find one near you, it's playing publicly everywhere from New York's Central Park to London's Cinema Lumiere.) "HOME" will also air on the National Geographic Channel at 9PM ET and online at YouTube. A portion of the proceeds from DVD sales will benefit Conservation International.
Skeptics who may not want to have their environmental efforts dictated by a fashion company (even PPR brass admits they are taking a bit of a risk) should see this informative film anyway. Firstly, it's narrated by Oscar-winner Glenn Close in English and by Salma Hayek for the Spanish version! Secondly, if factoids like 20% of the world consumes 80% of its resources doesn't get you then the scenery definitely will.
Director Yann Arthus-Bertrand and producer Luc Besson canvassed 54 countries in 217 days to shoot the earth and its inhabitants from an entirely aerial perspective.
Seek this movie -- it's the fashionable thing to do.
