After marrying French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Bruni promised not to play live in concert while the First Lady of France.
But now, it appears she's overturning her no-live-performances rule. According to Telegraph UK, she's just announced that she'll be doing a duet with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame at New York City's Radio City Music Hall for Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday on July 18. (A beyond valid reason to go back on your word!)
Before marrying Sarkozy, the 41-year-old former model/singer toured regularly. But since becoming First Lady and the debut of her "Comme Si de Rien N'était" CD last year (which only sold 90,000 copies), Bruni has scaled back her singing career, attributing it to security concerns and her more official role.
Bruni will be in good company: Aretha Franklin and Cyndi Lauper are also expected to perform for Mandela.
No word yet on whether Michelle Obama will be in attendance. Who knows, maybe Mrs.O and Bruni can coordinate outfits, yet again! Plus, there's a duet we'd pay to see -- two First Ladies and a microphone.
