Michelle Obama's Silver Belt Cinches Her Style Icon Status... Yet Again

After donning this Givenchy belt in France for the D-Day anniversary -- where she and Carla Bruni wore surprisingly similar ensembles -- the First Lady opted for the same silver cincher for yesterday's LGBT Pride Event in Washington, DC.
The belted beauty also wore simple trousers and a chic cropped jacket with short kimono sleeves (which she wore the belt over) -- classic Mrs. O -- to speak about the importance of community health centers.
She completed the look with a stack of silver and pearl bracelets.
Expect silver belts to hit a store neat you in the very near future!

Michelle Obama is the queen of high-low fashion. For lunch with Nancy Reagan at the White House on June 3rd, she paired a $10 T-shirt and $25 cardigan from the Gap (on sale, thank you very much!) with a luxe Michael Kors pencil skirt.

Michelle Obama continued her reign atop the fashion hierarchy at Time's "Most Influential People in the World" gala. The First Lady opted for a black full-length Michael Kors dress (not Azzedine Alaia as previously reported) and Peter Soronen corset with a white gold and rose cut diamond necklace by Loree Rodkin.

This one-shoulder gown by Jason Wu was seen around the world. Proving her fashionable prowess, the newly-appointed First Lady boldly chose a dress by the relatively unknown designer. Knowing what works for her body, she eschewed anything too dowdy or cleavage-baring and instead focused on her favorite asset - toned arms.

Many a critic found Obama's Junya Watanabe cardigan rather unsettling. The controversial piece, worn over a teal full-skirted Jason Wu dress, should get points for blending brown and blue if nothing else. At least her clothes fit better than poor Sarah Brown's, wife of the British Prime Minister.

While we're the first to embrace Mrs. O's style, we must admit that these clothes look like they spent too much time in the dryer. In comparison to the buttoned up Dr. Jill Biden, Obama's ensemble is more play school than preppy. Clearly, the argyle detail on a sweater is a recurring favorite.

While walking through a the White House rose garden on April 28th, Obama showed her love for a new designer, Sophie Theallet, in a full-skirted 1950s-inspired day dress. WWD reported that the First Lady was introduced to Theallet's clothing vis-a-vis her personal style consultant Ikram Goldman, and not Azzedine Alaia, for whom she used to work.

I give this outfit two thumbs up! I love Michelle's style and this ensemble is no exception. While the silver belt is a nice accessory, my favorite part of the outfit is the cropped jacket. The kimono sleeves are so adorable. Great post!

She needs to quit trying to look like she is in college and dress like a First Lady. She is going to look back at these pictures years from now and wonder, "What the heck was I thinking?" She should not be dressy "trendy" but more classic. If you look back at past First Ladies they probably don't have a lot of regrets for looking trendy. You can look very classy and "classic" without looking frumpy. Lose the high belts and sweaters.

Only a salesperson could see what Caroline sees in the outfit in question.

Who gives a F#CK about what she wears. Why are we not talking about her comunist husband, and all the tax increases that are in the works to go into effect. Liberal media would like to snow you by what she is wearing, rather than report the real issues.

First ladies should not be wearing "adorable" clothes. The jacket is OK but Michelle's style choices are on the "not elegant" side. Her choices should be those made by a first lady- not first teenager- . Off camera, she can wear what she likes. At events representing her country, she has been heeding some really bad advice. She should get with the job, not fight it. She knows better.

Caroline, you are so right, I think Michelle looked great. She brings a new look to the White House and that is great. Why would she want to look or dress like all the other women who have been in the White House. People in this country and much more critical of Michelle and the President, they get nothing but praise from other countries. That tells me that his country is full of racist and rednecks, who don't know how to be happy for anybody who doesn't look like themselves. They need to get a life and start thinking positive some time.

I do a lot of TV and modeling work. My business is all about looks and how to look perfect at any time, and any place. I’m not young anymore and this is now harder than ever. I thought my career was almost over but GenFX™ is my secret weapon. Quite honestly, I look 10 years younger than my real age! http://www.antiaginggenfx.com/

The ONLY style that Michelle Obama has is LACK OF ANY!!!! Just look at where the belt is positioned on her. It looks as if she is trying to hold up her breast.
To compare this STYLE DISASTER with the likes of JACKIE O is blasphemy!!!!!
Jackie Kennedy Onassis was elegant, regal, stylish, intelligent, poised, beautiful, refined, dignified, glamarous and a TRUE ICON!!!! Atleast Jackie O dressed appropriately while still being dignified and stylish.
The caption under one of the pictures says that Michelle Obama is a "RISK TAKER". Atleast they got that one right. The only problem is the risk she takes with fashion are ALL DISASTERS!!!!!!!!

Hey, to each his own but I think she looks ridiculous. A woman of her age should start dressing like a woman of her age! Leave the wide, scream out loud, at the thick of your mid section belt to the "girl" that's 5'9" tall and a size 8!
Guan 7-01-2009 @ 4:21PM
Is this what you call Fashion! It looks like a piece of s***!
dappy 7-01-2009 @ 5:09PM
You have to be kidding me. She looks like a brown-egg Humpty Dumpty - no shape. Who puts their belt up there - did she forget where her waist was?????
archie 7-01-2009 @ 5:23PM
I give this a 10 thumbs down......

It is so refreshing to see Michell being her own person.Good for her.

Who really cares what she wore?! People are soo infatuated with her fashion. Does it really matter? I think not.
TCCB1969 7-01-2009 @ 7:23PM
I'm glad she chose silver. Its my favorite. Gold is too gawdy. Silver is subtle and shiney and goes with everything. Gold just reminds me of all the cheesey 80's trends that scarey looking and ugly.
Candy 7-01-2009 @ 6:16AM
I'm sorry, I fail to see the fashion. The belt hiked up uner her breasts reminds me of fuddy duddy fat men who pull their pants up too high. The sleeves on the jacket are great, but the flap in the middle looks like she forgot to snap something. Overall, in my opinion, the "look" makes her look round shouldered or like she is slouching, and I don't recall her having poor posture. I think that sometimes she looks well-dressed but her style basically leaves me cold (i.e. the feathery thing she wore for her inauguration ball.)

I agree. I think the belt up under your boobs looks ridiculous. Belts should be worn at the waist and not up under your armpits. What are they holding up? Boobs? It's just a ridiculous look and I wish she would quit wearing it.
