Madonna and Marc Jacobs - The Making of Louis Vuitton's Fall Campaign and Story Behind Those Rabbit Ears

Ever since the bunny headpiece first appeared on the Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 runway and Madonna was all ears at the Met's Costume Institute Gala, fashionistas have been asking, "what up with the ears?"

Finally, the always imaginative Marc Jacobs answers the burning question in this behind-the-scenes video of Madonna's Louis Vuitton's Fall 2009 ad campaign.

Jacobs says the idea for the "hare" accessory came about when he and his design team were searching for the perfect finishing touch to his Parisian courtesan-inspired looks.

One member of his design team wrapped a piece of fabric around another team member's head. When Jacobs spied the look, he thought: bunny ears!

While the ears may remind some of Playboy (which the designer acknowledges in the video) they are twisted for a more French coquette vibe. MJ says he also likes the way the style works as a throwback to early "M" -- we were thinking "Lucky Star" ourselves.

By the way, Jacobs says Madge "is heaven to work with."
