Katherine Heigl's Newly Dark Hair

At the premiere of Katherine Heigl's new film, "The Ugly Truth," Anna Faris found herself the only hot blonde on the red carpet.

In an unexpected twist, Heigl stepped out with a dramatically deeper hair color than her usual Marilyn Monroe-esque shade. Her new auburn locks -- with matching eyebrows(!) -- look more sultry than sunny.

This transformation is well-timed, as Heigl seems to be dead set on letting us know she's more intense than her film career -- full of romantic comedies -- suggests.

In the August issue of InStyle, she warns us that "The Ugly Truth" earns its R rating with lots of F-bombs and sex talk.

"I didn't want to do another PG-13 movie," she said.

Judging from her sexy, sophisticated new look, we get the picture.

Katherine is the same, classic, All-American beauty that young, Ellen Burstyn was... apple cheeks, brooding eyes and warm, genuine smile. She's going to be beautiful when she's 60... but she's not 60 yet. The darker hair makes her look matronly. I like the Maralynesque, blonde Katherine better.

Well, that color is probably closer to her natural color. She probably went darker to give her hair a rest from being lightened. You can see that her scalp area is dark and even using a high lift tint (as opposed to bleach) can be trying on the hair when done over the long term. Besides, the change is good. Going darker also deposits color into the lightened hair and gives it more substance that the lightener or high lift tint takes out during the process.
