As the temperature rises, so does the chance of your makeup sliding off your face. Update your makeup routine with warm weather beauty tips from Carmindy, makeup artist for TLC's What Not to Wear. Read on for a complete warm weather look that'll last all day.
Beauty Basics: Summerproof Makeup
"When the seasons change and the weather gets hotter, you want to update your makeup routine," says Carmindy, makeup artist for TLC's What Not to Wear. Read on for a complete warm weather look that'll last all day!
Step One: Navy Eyeliner
Line your eyes with a navy blue pencil--it's softer than black and still works for everyone. Choose a waterproof gel formula and simply work the pencil right across the upper lash line in small dashes. Not only is the color summery, but because it's waterproof, even if it's super humid or you go swimming, this liner's going to stay put.
Step Two: Shimmer Highlighter
Now it's time to add a little shimmer to the eyes. Stay away from heavy shadow, because you want to look fresh and natural in the summer--a pinky golden shade of shimmer will do that.
Applying the Shimmer
Use an eyeshadow brush to dust the powder right underneath the brow and on the inner corners of the eyes.
Step Three: Mascara
For a light and natural effect, just sweep mascara on the tips of the upper lashes to give the eyes quick definition. "Make sure the mascara is either waterproof or tube technology so it will last all day in the heat and humidity," advises Carmindy.
Step Four: Powder Bronzer
In the summer, when skin can get a little greasy, a powder bronzer will soak up more oil and stay truer than a cream. Go one or two shades deeper than your natural skin tone and ightly sweep it where the sun would naturally hit: on the temples, along the sides of the face and right underneath the cheekbones. You can do the bridge of your nose and your chin too, as long as you keep it light, or your skin will look muddy.
Step Five: Bright Blush
"I always like to add a little pop of bright blush to the apples of the cheeks. Remember when it comes to blush, the bolder the better and use a big fluffy powder brush, just like you did with your bronzer," says Carmindy.
Step Six: Lip Gloss
There's nothing worse than heavy lipstick on a hot summer day, so I prefer to stick with a lip tint, which is almost like a balm, but with more gloss. Go for bright, juicy sorbet shades that'll really make your lips stand out without being overdone. Because lip tints are so moisturizing, they'll help you avoid chapped lips from summer heat and sun, too.
Applying the Gloss
Use a lip brush to smooth your lip tint on.
Step Seven: Blotting Paper
"When shine strikes your T-zone, instead of layering on heavy powder, try toting blotting papers in your bag," says Carmindy. This is the easiest and quickest way to absorb shine throughout the day without having to apply more makeup--just dab onto spots that are shiny to soak up excess oil.
