Stella McCartney in Battle with Bono's Wife Over 'Nude' Projects

Hewson and her business partner Bryan Meehan have a company called Nude Skincare, which specializes in natural probiotic products.
When the line was founded a couple of years ago, Hewson suggested naming it Nude, the reverse of Edun, Bono and Hewson's green clothing line.
Now McCartney is naming her newest scent -- out this fall -- StellaNude.
"Nude Skincare is suing for compensation, not because of anything to do with the scent of the perfume but because of branding and the use of the word 'nude,'" the Daily Mail was told by an undisclosed source.
Apparently, McCartney's people are hoping to settle out of court.
"Stella isn't likely to make any changes now because the fragrance is coming out in September and nudity is a big part of the perfume's 'look,'" an anonymous source told the paper.
"The bottle, for example, is a nude color." And, as you might recall, Stella's fall collection featured plenty of peek-a-boo lace panels and cut-outs evocative of the nude theme that would surely be featured in the advertisements.
Sephora is already selling the new StellaNude scent, which it describes as "the delicacy of the skin, the softness of rose petals, and the sensuality of silk lingerie."
The $43-an-ounce potion includes notes of Moroccan rose, grapefruit, white peony, pink pepper, vanilla, amber, and musk.
Do you think Stella McCartney is infringing on Edun's territory? Leave a comment!

Even though names are similar, they are not the same. It really depends if the product is a copy of the other. To take someone to court I would think Ali would have sufficient evidence that Stella is infringing on her copyright... or... maybe this whole lawsuit is a hoax with the intent to gain brand awareness.

they just want money and publicity. who cares in the end? it's just products being marketed and this seems like it's giving them more business.

Does this mean that KFC can now sue Church's Chicken for using the word chicken? This case has absolutely no merit whatsoever. Aside from that, it's two entirely different businesses. What does perfume have to do with skincare? This is just ridiculous. You cannot trademark the word nude.

About the chicken..........i heard a good one years ago that is similar to this. When the Warner Brothers heard that the Marx Brothers were releasing a movie called "A Night in Casablanca", they fired off a letter threatening to sue the Marx Brothers for using the name "Casablanca" for their movie. Groucho Marx fired off a letter back to the Warner Brothers threatening to sue them for using the name 'Brothers'.
You go, Stella!

Nude has been a commonly used word in the english language for hundreds of years. Trying to stop Stella McCarthy from using it makes Ali Hewson looks extremely petty. It disgusts me when I see people trying to take another person's rights away. A word as common as nude should be anyone's right to use. Maybe Ali should have invented her own word if she didn't want anyone else using it.

Give me a break! Bono's wife is just as arrogant as her husband. She doesn't own the word NUDE.

The word nude has been in the public domain for centuries.
The lawsuit should be tossed out of court in seconds; and whoever filed the suit shoulod be made to pay court costs
and donate 10 million to victims of the flooding in China.

Perhaps I should sue Elizabeth Arden for using MY name. Seriously, nude is a common word. There are lots of companies with names that overlap. There is a real estate agency here where I live suing a deli for having the same name. It was the last name of the founder and the company is over 75 yrd old, but, they moved down the street and are now closer to the real estate place so they are suing. No one is going to confuse a deli with a real estate agency. And no one is going to confuse a $43 bottle of perfume with a skin care product from another company. Even if they do, who care?
