Despite a store opening in New York City last month, JCPenney is having a tough summer. The Plano, Texas-based retailer has been stung by a recent series of robberies, including the theft of jewelry and other merchandise, reports the Shreveport Times.

The latest two of the six robberies took place in Louisiana.

Last Sunday, two men with covered faces entered the Covington retail location by cutting a hole in the building's roof and made off with over $1.5 million in jewelry and other goods, says the source.

Investigators believe that the same men committed the Lafayette store robbery on Wednesday, where they also went through the roof and smashed jewelry displays.

With the numerous recent JCPenney robberies in the South and Midwest, including Texas and Indiana, Louisiana government officials and police are on high alert.

Mark Natalie, Bossier City, Louisiana's city spokesperson, today told the paper, "The patrol division has also been briefed so that officers know to be on the lookout for anything suspicious around the store, particularly during the overnight hours."
