Already a singer, a reality show judge, and, well, an ex-con, Girls Aloud and X Factor star Cheryl Cole can now add model and spokesperson to her resume.

L'Oreal signed the caramel-haired crooner to be the face for Elvive Full Restore 5, a line of products targeting women in the UK slated to launch in October. Cole is the first British woman to be signed by L'Oreal since Kate Moss in 1998.

"The company is very international and we have a lot of US signings and we felt we were missing a UK celebrity," Gale Tait, the general manager of L'Oreal Paris, told The Guardian. Cheryl "is considered the nation's sweetheart and is held in great affection by the British public. We sign on personality as much as anything."

But the 26 year old Cole is not all sugar and spice: In 2003 at age 19, she was charged with racially aggravated assault and found guilty of assault occasioning actual body harm after an altercation with a bathroom attendant at The Drink nightclub in Guildford, Surrey, England. Though she denied the allegations, Cole was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and ordered to pay her victim 500 pounds in compensation.

We find it a little surprising that L'Oreal would sign a spokesmodel with a police record. Your thoughts?
