More and more, male models are acting as the backdrop for fashion campaigns starring female models such as Kate Moss, and lucky for us, this new breed of male mannequin is of the muscular Greek statue variety, reports WWD.
Karl Lagerfeld sounds off on this testosterone friendly trend, telling the site, "I think after the ugly skinny boys of Hedi [Slimane's] days, some 'beauty' was needed, but new beauty."
"They put the girls in a more lifestyle situation. Lonely girls can be a little sad in a fashion story," Kaiser Karl adds, explaining why more men are currently being featured in women's wear ad campaigns.
While we're not complaining, Dean Caten of DSquared had a different (and smarter?) theory, telling WWD, "'To be perfectly honest, the presence of both men and a woman in the same ad shoot was a way to cut costs and get more value for your money.'"
With campaign regulars Gisele Bundchen and Kate Moss raking in millions a year -- and no doubt commanding high fees for their work -- we think this kind of recessionary tactic is the most attractive we've heard about all year.
As the saying goes, "every cloud has a silver lining!"
