Those flight attendant uniforms. Those oh-so-sexy cat eyes.

The AMC series Mad Men, now in its third season, is arguably the most stylish show on the tube.

So naturally when one of the creative brains behind Mad Men speaks, we listen. And Lana Horochowski, the show's new makeup department head, has her work cut out for her: Coming up with the 50s chic makeup looks are no easy task, as weeks and weeks of meetings and research go into developing each look.

"Magazines and old movies are a great guideline for a basic look and color selection," says Horochowski. "However, we do try to keep the characters looking like real people that do their own makeup and not like movie stars with a makeup artist standing by."

How can we get these glam look ourselves? "Well, a great start would be lining the top lash line only with a gel liner like M.A.C. Fluidline," says Horochowski. " We love this product for recreating the perfect 60's eye."

For lips, replace gloss and sheer lipsticks with matte reds, bright pinks, and corals for a more retro look. Trade powder blush for creams in pinks and corals to create a flushed cheek, and add a few faux lashes - either a full strip or just a few at the corners, for extra wow.

Bottom line, keep it basic. Horochowski stresses: "Women of the 60's had a stricter code of style and etiquette, so people tended to follow the trends closer to the book."
