Walmart - The New Catwalk?

Last Saturday, the New York Times issued what amounted to an apology for a previous article that took a caustic look at JCPenney, which had dared to open an outpost in Manhattan. In the original story, the Times critic lampooned it as "a dowdy middle American entity" with "obese mannequins."
"It's like a headless wax museum devoted entirely to the cast of 'Roseanne,'" wrote the journalist, who quickly landed in hot water. It turns out the mother of Times executive editor Bill Keller enjoys shopping at Penney's and, he says, would have found the article "snotty." Oops!
The lesson for those who write about fashion is to remember that it's the airbrushed models on the billboards who are fake, but the people who shop for clothes are real.
Enter PeopleOfWalmart.com, a new Website that launched this month devoted to the customers of "America's favorite superstore."
It is a brutally funny photo collection of mullets, muffin tops and those weird sleeveless T-shirts some guys wear that have the sides cut out from the shoulder to the waist (what are those called, anyway?).
"It's not everywhere that you can shop for milk at 10 a.m. next to a 400lb mother of 6 wearing a pink tube top, leopard tights, and hooker heels," explain the founders of the site. It was created, they write, "in August of 2009 by three friends and roommates after an inspirational trip to WalMart."
Don't expect any hand-wringing apologies such as The Times published from these guys. They're even encouraging submissions by offering a prize of a Walmart gift card for $100. (I suspect they might even pay more if you get a picture of Bill Keller's mother.)Just think -- if you win the gift card, you could load up on Miley Cyrus' new line!

The economy and the employment situation have changed in our country. Walmart knows it, JCPenny knows it, and Target knows it. They have made the changes they know they needed to make. If you don't make changes don't expect things to get better for yourself. You can no longer depend on finding a great job, with great benefits, that you will have until you retire. I suggest that you explore all of your options, especially looking into a home business. That won't work for everyone but if you find one that you can get into for virtually no investment and learn the right skills, you should do well.
There are two opportunities in particular that I recommend. One great opportunity is a program by Robert Allen that can be run at home and has the potential to produce multiple streams of income.http://www.robertallenmultiplestreamsofincome.com There aren't many people out there that I think know more about making a business more profitable than I do but Robert Allen is sure one of them. He makes it so simple that anyone with reasonable intelligence should be able to follow this program and create a great income for themselves
The other is an amazing opportunity to profit from the Home Business Success Program (http://HomeBusinessSuccessProgram.com/ ) they'll teach you the skills that hundreds of thousands of people are now using to make a serious income while working from home. I can tell you that there's nothing better than making more money than you ever did before and having much more time to enjoy it.

I lost my job a few months ago, as many of us are now. I was devastated, how was I going to support my family? I read about the eBay Success System in Entrepreneur magazine and they even had a link ( http://HomeBusinessSuccessProgram.com/ ) to get a free kit explaining how to make money that way. I found out that over 720,000 Americans are making a living on EBAY right now. I am one of them now. Now you can do that too. I can tell you that I'm already making as much money as I did on my job and I'm working less time than I used to spend commuting. Beat the economic depression and get your free kit today http://HomeBusinessSuccessProgram.com/

I'm a single mother with three kids, and I was not pulling in enough income to support us. Now all that has changed. I am now making more money than I have ever dreamed. I've seen articles from other companies promising success in internet businesses before, and I tried some of them because I had nothing to lose. But, they never came close to the success Ebay ( http://tinyurl.com/MakeMoneyOnlineWithEbay ) have given me. It took me from a $24,000 yearly income job to making over $50,000 within 9 months. Money is coming in my PayPal account everyday and I am loving it.

Geez - can't someone do something about these spammers that reply to every story and advertise their meaningless wares??
In any event, the funniest part of this article is that I searched for PeopleOfWalmart.com - and the site doesn't exist!
Kelley 8-31-2009 @ 6:34PM
Bob - the site exists and it is worth checking out. A friend of mine sent me a link a couple of days ago on Facebook.

I shopped at WalMart recently, looking for a pair of shorts in a size 12-14. The women's department had absolutely nothing suitable for a 50 year old woman. I noticed how small the department itself was, compared to the plus-sized department and the related clothing, which was huge. I asked a sales manager why the women's department had such a limited selection and was told "WalMart does not cater to average sized people. We cater to the obese." That, from a manager.

Sorry, dear, but just because you found nothing to suit you, don't make up responses. No store sales manager would make such a comment.

You're such a lying sack full of BS. No one at WalMart ever said such a thing, mainly because you are so completely lying about "how small the department itself was, compared to the plus-sized department and the related clothing, which was huge." I am a plus sized woman (as is my sister) and I have shopped at WalMarts all over the country. I have never been in a single one which had more than two or three racks (small ones at that) devoted to "plus sizes" compared to the 50-60 racks for "average" womens sizes (8-16). Occasionally they will have a few racks where they have both "average" and "plus" sizes together, with a sign that size 18 and up is $2 higher price.
At the other extreme is the fact that WalMart carries nothing for those who wear smaller than "average" sizes. Since she had her baby two years ago my youngest daughter wears a size 3 (before she got pregnant she wore size 0-1). She can find nothing at all under size 6 in WalMart, which in a dress or shirt is not too bad but in pants will not do at all. She actually has to buy her pants in size 16 in the girls' dept. and can only do that because she is barely 5'2". If she was any taller she'd be out of luck. Her older sister is size 6-8 so on occasion is able to find things her size. My oldest daughter and my niece are luckier in that at size 12 they fit right into the middle of WalMart's "average" size range.

I've gone to Walmart several time and I'm also 10-12 sizes, 49 yrs.,they have a nice selection but they mostly cater to the younger crowd
sadiemae1214 8-31-2009 @ 4:36PM
Gee, I'm 60, wear a size 6/8 and never have any problem finding what I want. Maybe you should gain some weight or start dressing like a 40yr. old

I'd LOVE to know which walmart you live near!~ The wally world near orlando has a tiny womans dept. and a really nice size juniors dept!
Michelle 8-31-2009 @ 6:33PM
I would like to know what Walmart you're shopping at, because the ones in my part of the country hardly have ANYTHING for the plus size woman. I have to order my clothes off of the Walmart website!!!
Frank 9-06-2009 @ 3:16PM
Uh yea. Our Walmart caters to children and our womans department is very small. And the comment is about normal considering what Walmart hires now, the stupid, the ignorant and the ones that just don't give a f*ck.
MrDoughnut 8-31-2009 @ 3:18PM
So that's why they drive around on those power carts!
I thought they were for the disabled.
It turns out that the plus size people are just too heavy to walk. How easily they can over power other customers like Wrestlers smashing them to the canvas then making off to the cookie asiles.

So how "thin" are you, MrDoughnut? I mean in fat cells since your ignorant comment demonstrates how "thin" you are in brain cells.
